PART TWO OF 2000 A.D. COVER (& IMAGE) GALLERY...

Images copyright REBELLION

Ready for part two?  Well, ready or not, here it comes.  The final lot of 2000 A.D. covers from 1979, bought back in the day by my good self.  Think I'll have to sit down and read them all again one day, when I have time.  Funny that the first one of this run I bought (Prog 119) had JAMES BOND on the cover, and the last one (127) also gives him a mention.  It's possible I bought some of the following issues after the merger with TORNADO, but if I did, I never kept them.  (I just didn't like the comic's return to cheaper printing.)

Hey, is this another great post or what?!  Gimme some feedback in the comments section - and don't forget to tick one of those little boxes under each post, Criv-ite chums.  Your vote counts.

Below, is this the greatest JUDGE DREDD story ever written?   It's certainly got to be one of them, right up near the top.  Hopefully, REBELLION won't mind me posting the full story, but it's one with a powerful message that everyone should read. Click on the images to enlarge, then click again for optimum size.  Have your hankies at the ready - this one will really move you!

Did you spot that great bit of visual humour?  "A heavy guard on the door", with a clearly overweight judge filling the role.  I can't help but wonder if this was indicated in JOHN HOWARD's script, or was it JOHN COOPER's idea?  Nicely done though.

The above-mentioned 'SHAKY' KANE would eventually draw for IPC

....And even more thanks, Kid!
I have been following the covers over on Steve's and it looked to me that once Star Lord merged with it, that the comic really started improving in leaps and bounds. Even so, I still hadn't started buying it yet and, as when I did, it WAS on cheap pulp paper, THAT is the 2000AD that I prefer ( just like the Beano! )
Incidentally, I believe the plan WAS to release Star Lord (in superior paper), because 2000 AD still wasn't selling shedloads. So IPC were hoping that Star Lord would be a big success and then they could merge Twoothy with it to make one brilliant mag on top quality paper! Unfortunately though, (or, fortunately, depending on whichever way you look at it!), Star Lord was a bit of a flop (despite being a great mag!) and the merger had to go the other way!

Cheap paper and printing doesn't usually bother me, JP, but I liked the size and shape of this 9 ish run I bought (I don't know when it was changed to this better paper), and when the comic reverted to the cheaper newsprint, it just didn't seem as good by comparison. 2000 A.D. was going to get the chop a good few years ago until Rebellion bought it. If they hadn't, it wouldn't be around now.

In the drawings by readers section is a sketch by the one and only Shaky Kane,
the unabashed Jack Kirby stylist.

Yup, I know - that's why there's a footnote there saying that very thing, Baab. (You weren't paying attention.) There's also a footnote about Kevin Sutherland in the previous part.

Wolfie Smith ? The same name as the character on the Citizen Smith TV show. And was Twoothy the nickname for 2000AD or did John make it up himself ?

Spotted the Wolfie name, CJ - dunno whether 'Twoothy' is JP's exclusive creation or not.

"POWER TO THE PEOPLE!"
Can't remember where I first read it affectionally called "Old Twoothy", Col, but more than one fan have referred to it as such. I joined the bandwagon, as its easier than going to numbers and caps!

I'd have thought it was easier just to type '2000' (without the quotes) - shorter and quicker.

I was lost in the moment.

So long as it was a moment you enjoyed, Baab, then no harm done.

Not with my fumble-fingers! I am a very slow, one finger typist!

I'm up to two fingers now. (Why does that sound faintly rude?)
