In 1955, MAD comic, with its 24th issue, changed from a comicbook to a magazine in a move that bypassed the COMICS CODE, which didn't apply to the latter format. (Though, despite some claims to the contrary, wasn't the reason for the switch.) So here's the cover of the first issue of the new Mad, which retained the numbering from its original incarnation - making it #1 and #24 at the same time. Mad, isn't it?
A cascading cornucopia of cool comics, crazy cartoons, & classic collectables - plus other completely captivating & occasionally controversial contents. With nostalgic notions, sentimental sighings, wistful wonderings, remorseful ruminations, melancholy musings, rueful reflections, poignant ponderings, & yearnings for yesteryear. (And a few profound perplexities, puzzling paradoxes, & a bevy of big, beautiful, bedazzling, buxom Babes to round it all off.)

KLASSIC KOMIC KOVERS - U.K. MAD #1...
| Image copyright DC COMICS (TIME WARNER) |
The U.K. edition of MAD #1 appeared in 1959 and lasted until #381 in 1994. In between, there's an interesting story to be told about its fate and fortunes, but, for today, I'm only interested in the first issue's cover so that's all you're getting, too. But, hey - it's ALFRED E. NEUMAN for crying out loud - what more do you want?!
