BE A SUPER BOY? I WAS STUNG!

Anyone recall this blast from the past?  I think it was one of the very few times I ever bought The HORNET comic, and it was mainly because I foolishly believed that observance of this free gift's contents would transform me into the Scottish equivalent of CLARK KENT's alter-ego.  I eagerly anticipated being the envy of my friends and the object of rampant lust amongst the female populace of my town.

Thinking back on it now, there was very little chance that I'd ever be able to swim farther - mainly because I can't swim!  Run faster?  Scratch that one off the list as well.  Jump higher?  Nope!  Box better?  Only if it's putting something in a box.  Come to think of it, I may have a claim against DCT for false advertising, as  I was every bit as much of a wimp at the 'after' stage as I was at the 'before'.

So I was never destined to be a 'Super Boy', but I was a real 'Boy Wonder'.  People used to look at me and wonder if I was a real boy!  (Boom-boom!  The old ones are the best!)

NICE 'WORK' IF YOU CAN GET IT...

I'm pleased to see that my contributions to a certain Scottish Publisher's world-famous periodical are still appearing.  As previously mentioned, I declined their offer of payment on account of it being reward enough to be associated with the esteemed organ, even if only in an extremely minor way.  Anyway, it's about time I drummed up a few more pieces to submit to them.  If I were accepting payment, it'd work out at around £80 - £100 per hour.  Not bad, eh?

******

Nice to see that the idea of my occasional submissions (which take no time at all) being potentially worth so much has infuriated some loser enough to send me abusive comments calling me a liar and making impotent threats against me.  What he doesn't know is that he's under investigation even as I type this.  Correction - he does now.

BABE Of The DAY - JAMELIA...

Now appearing on STRICTLY
COME DANCING on BBC 1 (so I'm
told), here's lovely JAMELIA to send
all you Crivvies into a spin.

PART TWO Of PETE'S PICK Of The POST...

Another eight back pages of jokes from TV EXPRESS WEEKLY to hopefully give you a chuckle on this dreich Monday morning* in the less-than-merry month of October, Crivvie comics fans.  Supposedly introduced by popular presenter and DJ of the day (with a not always convincing illustrated likeness) PETE MURRAY, the comic was a brave attempt to compete with HULTON PRESS's EAGLE.

It never quite rose to those heights, but RON EMBLETON's art (not seen here) was certainly the equal of FRANK HAMPSON's, in my estimation.  Wouldn't it be nice if both periodicals were still on the go today?  Along with TV21 and TV COMIC.

(*Well, it was morning when I composed this post.)

RON EMBLETON'S CAPTAIN SCARLET...

Here's a very nice piece of RON EMBLETON art, featuring CAPTAIN SCARLET and his fellow SPECTRUM agents, along with some of the craft used by them in their epic battle against the MYSTERONS.  It's the combined image from the back of a set of cards produced by ANGLO, which accompanied a particularly disgusting piece of confectionery back in the '60s, when the puppet programme was on TV.
