I can't remember if I've posted these three particular YOGI BEAR comic strips from TV EXPRESS WEEKLY before, and I'm just far too lazy to check, so here they are anyway. The baseball player whom Yogi was named after, passed away at the age of 90 a couple of days ago (LAWRENCE PETER 'YOGI' BERRA), but hopefully the cartoon bruin will always be around.
Nothing reminds me of my childhood as much as Yogi.

I've mentioned this before somewhere on another comment but I might as well say it again - when I was about 8 years old my father told me that television was invented by John Logie Baird but I mis-heard him and thought he said Yogi Bear had invented television :)
And as I mentioned before Yogi Bear DID invent TV - that's why he's smarter than the average bear! John Logie Baird just stole the credit.
Remember Yogi Bear didn't die. It was Yankees catcher Yogi Berra. By all accounts he threatened to sue but his friends told him he would end up being the man who killed Yogi Bear so he didn't.
Er, you've lost me there, Phil - I didn't say Yogi Bear had died, I said Yogi Berra had. Yeah, I'd heard on the radio that he threatened to sue HB, but personally I think he'd have lost that one. First of all, he wasn't a bear, secondly, Yogi wasn't his real name, and thirdly, he didn't walk about in the buff with just a hat, collar and tie on. I'm surprised he didn't immediately regard it as the compliment it was.
Yogi was based on Art Carney in the Honeymooners from the hat to his speech. My favorite joke was Jackie Gleason telling his wife - I'm the king in this house and you're nothing! And his wife says - big deal you're the king of nothing!
Apparently Yogi Berra did slap a lawsuit on HB, which he later withdrew, for defamation. I'm not sure how having a cartoon bear with a similar name 'defamed' him, but I'm glad he saw sense. HB claimed the name was a coincidence (which seems unlikely), but nowadays acknowledge the connection.
Did you get Huckleberry Hound Weekly as a nipper, Kid? It was a great little Comic!
I don't remember ever seeing it, but it's possible my mother bought me one and I've forgotten. I did buy Yogi & his Toy 'though - and I was a teenager!
Besides Huck & Yogi, the weekly also included ( when I used to get it ) Jinxsy, Pixie & Dixie, Quick Draw McGraw, Snooper & Blabber and Augie Doggy.
I also had Yogi & Flintstones pocketbooks as well.
I've now got a few issues of Huckleberry Hound Weekly, JP.
