COULD I BE FALLING IN LOVE?

Believe it or not, there are some people who think that the
legendary JIM REEVES sang only C&W songs, such as BIMBO
and MEXICAN JOE, not realizing that he was a romantic balladeer
whose rich, velvet voice could embrace a lyric like no other singer
before or after him. Here is such an example.

Phasers to 'swoon'!

My late mother used to sing "Bimbo" to me when I was a tot. I never knew it was one of Jim's. I'm off to YouTube!

It was his first hit, I believe. I always wondered if the D.C. Thomson comic of the same name was inspired by Jim's song. I must confess to preferring his later, smoother and more polished ballads to his early C&W tracks.

And when my younger brother used to get that very comic ( featuring Baby Crocket of Beezer fame! ) she rereleased her rendition of the song to him, so there IS a connection of sorts!

Back in the '60s and early '70s, I used to have a neighbour around the same age as myself by the name of Robert Baird. His nickname was Bimbo (as in Bimbo Baird) - probably named after the song, I would imagine.

The '78 overdub is particularly good. Thanks for the idea, Joe.
