It only seems like two or three years back since I heard that several facsimiles of famous IPC/Fleetway and DCT comics were being issued with The Guardian and The Observer newspapers, but I only learned of them after the fact and never managed to obtain any at the time. Thank goodness for eBay, eh? I now have all seven of them, which I managed to acquire recently for a very reasonable price (far less per issue than a new comic would cost nowadays). They were issued in 2009 - a staggering 14 years ago, though it sure doesn't seem anywhere near as long as that to me. These facsimiles were published when several people I knew who have since died were yet hale and hearty - where did the time go?
Interestingly, the DCT comics have no interior references to the fact they're facsimiles, whereas the IPC/Fleetway ones do. In 2009 Egmont owned the copyright on titles and strips which were later acquired by Rebellion.
Anyway, thought you might like to see them so no sooner said than done. If you had any of them at the time, what did you think of them? Comments welcome.

I wasn’t aware of these at all kid but I do have the “Roy of the Rovers” original comic which was a cracker. I see the Beano facsimile was to celebrate #2000, Roy of the Rover was the shooting of Roy Race, first issue of Tammy etch but what was the relevance of the “Dandy” and the “Whizzer and Chips” facsimiles as I can’t make out the numbers/pics. I wish they would publish facsimiles editions of some of the 1960s/1970s Summer Specials like Valiant, Lion etc
I haven't looked through them all yet, McS, so don't know the relevance (if any) of all the chosen issues, but I'll try and do so before too long and let you know. The quality of reproduction is very high so I'm well-pleased with them. I think I have the original Beano #2000, but a nice spare won't do me any harm. Like you, I'd love to see some facsimile editions of classic Summer Specials.
I was on holiday in Devon the week that these were issued. I've got the Beano, Dandy and W&C. Wish I'd bought the others but for some reason I didn't. I've always wondered why they chose those particular issues of Dandy and W&C but have never come up with a reason. I think that the 3 issues I have are easy to spot as facsimiles because the paper is whiter than white - even now after all these years. They just look 'different' to me. Nice post, Kid. 👍
Yes, M, it's better quality paper than the originals as far as Beano, Dandy, and Whizzer & chips go, perhaps even Roy Of The Rovers too. The big giveaway for me that the Beano and Dandy aren't originals is the fact that they're stapled and not glued. I've had a look through The Dandy and can't see why that one was chosen - perhaps because Winker Watson was 'rested' for a while with that particular issue? Cheers.
Having thought about it, the reason is obvious why I didn't buy the others. I've never followed football so therefore never bought football comics. And the others are all connected - girls' comics!! In the past 14 years I have revised my opinions, I have bought both football and girls' comics and I have to admit I have read some cracking stories in them. Ah yes, the staples - an even bigger giveaway.
I found an article online about these facsimiles Kid, this issue of the Dandy was chosen as it was the last Korky the Cat cover.
Actually, M, had I seen them at the time, I'd probably have bought only the Beano, Dandy, and W&C issues for the same reasons as you - not into comics for girls, or football. However, nowadays, my collector's mentality thinks it's good to have the full set of seven - just for the sake of completeness. I might take a look through Tammy and Bunty as they've got comic strips (and I think Pat Mills and Alan Grant - maybe even John Wagner - used to write strips for them), but I can't see Jackie holding any interest for me.

Ah, right, McS - thanks for that. What about the Whizzer and Chips one? I should see if I can find anything about them online myself, but I'm far too lazy. I'll try and force myself.
it didn't say anything other than W&C was the last facsimile showing a 2 in 1 type comic format Kid.
So there was nothing significant about that particular issue, only that it was an example of a 2-in-1? Ta for that, McS.
My sister read Jackie for a while so I know it was a comic for older girls containing photo-stories about romance plus items about make-up, fashion etc and pin-ups of male pop stars and film stars. Younger girls' comics like Mandy and Judy often had quite engaging comic-strips despite being for girls but Jackie had very little interest for a male reader.
It's got so little interest for me, CJ, that I've only half-heartedly flicked through it very quickly and nothing grabbed my attention. I'll maybe give it a more thorough look at a later date.
