RECOMMENDED READING: THE MAN-THING - THE COMPLETE COLLECTION VOLUME ONE...

Images copyright MARVEL COMICS

I was never much into MAN-THING to be honest.  SWAMP THING was the muck-encrusted monster for me, probably 'cos I discovered him first.  At one time, I considered Manny to be a mere imitation of Swampy, but now know that neither one was a copy of the other - apparently, it was just one of those amazing quirks of fate that we call coincidence.

Now, with my acquisition of this great new book, I finally have an opportunity to catch up on Manny's adventures and re-evaluate my opinion of him.  Looking forward to it, 'cos it looks like a belter.  So, MAN-THING - The COMPLETE COLLECTION Volume One is most likely a book that you'd enjoy getting to grips with, too.  Trot along to your local comicbook store today and snap a copy up right away before it sells out.

Dan Slott's She-Hulk is available in 'The Complete Collection' format, and I featured the Frankenstein one back in November, AJ. looks like you'll be broke by BD sure enough.

Despite owning these in the Essential format (I've traded off my originals), I was much attracted to this collection as it would sit nicely next to the lovely color Swamp Thing volume from DC. I read somewhere that they might be getting around to doing a second volume of that original run sooner than later.

I've always really liked the Swamp monster genre from the Heap to Bog Beast and like you "Swamp Thing" is by far my favourite strip. I just wish they would get around to reprinting the Nestor Redondo era strips instead of always concentrating on revamps of the wonderful Bernie Wrightson books and the Alan Moore era. Still this looks interesting I may have a wee peek at this as Man Thing had its moment (despite the awful character name).

Found that out after posting (that will teach me to post late night/early morning comments eh?)My Birthday is on the 13th of January...hmmmm... I wonder....

Rip, I think the colour volumes have a whole other dimension to them that the Essential ones don't, so I'm sure you'd enjoy owning it.

I'm lucky enough to have a complete run of the original Swamp Thing series, McS, but I agree - a deluxe volume of Redondo's stuff would go down a treat.

I'm sure that if you flash a smile at the missus while pointing to this blog post, AJ, it will work wonders.

It honestly had never occurred to me that there was anything rude about the Man-Thing's name until I read various comments on blogs (as Paul mentions his "awful" name) - perhaps it was because I'm so sweet and pure-minded :) I mainly remember the Man-Thing as drawn by Mike Ploog in Dracula Lives.

It never occurred to me either, CJ, until you mentioned it - and even then I had to think about in what way it was rude for a few seconds before it clicked. I'd just assumed McScotty meant the name was awful in comparison to Swamp Thing's name.

You innocent 'ikle angels you - yeah imagine going to a newsagent and asking if they have a "Giant size Man Thing" in yet!!!

What can I say, McS? 'To the pure, all things are pure.' (Not an impression that people have of me, admittedly - unless they're calling me a 'pure b*st*rd.)

Add me to that list of puritans who it never occurred to until now!
Perhaps Marvel should have called him "The Bog Thing"!?
But then, that sounds like a huge jobbie!! :-D

Or the Swamp Beast perhaps? He does look a bit like a huge jobbie 'though.
