PERCHANCE DID YOU PURCHASE A PLASTRON SUPERCAR RECENTLY?

Here's an item I saw on eBay recently - a PLASTRON SUPERCAR from the 1960s.  I never had this toy as a kid so I'm not consumed by a desire to own it (though if anyone's giving one away, I'll gratefully take it off your hands), but it's a nice example of GERRY ANDERSON related merchandise from the period.

This toy is apparently quite rare, so these photos are as close as you and me are ever likely to get to it.  The starting bid was over £600, but I don't know what it finally sold for.  Oh, to be rich, eh?

I'm sure there are people who'd be prepared to pay £600 or more for that toy even if they had to live on bread and water for the next six months :)

I would if I really wanted it, but it's not high on my list.

This toy looks so familiar to me that there's a possibity that I might have actually had one, although I couldn't swear to it. There's something about the little Mike Mercury figure and I fancy I can remember the smell of the plastic and I have a vague recollection of it breaking easily?
I have no way of checking to see if this is a real memory, however.
Perhaps? I did like Supercar, so Mum could very well have bought me one!

There was a friction-drive one (which I had) that might be the one you recall, JP. I'll post a photo of it one day.

You already did here, Kidda, but that one didn't seem familiar. It's the Plastron Supercar that does.

That's not the one I had as a kid, JP - that's another one I also wanted at a later date. The one I'm talking about is a friction-drive toy, which the Cecil Coleman one isn't.

I was given one of these in 1963 and I still have, it although the canopy is missing - was easilly broken as I recall. It was a great toy and brings back such happy memories. Thanks for posting. Many regards Roger

Roger, I may be wrong, but I think it might be possible to get a replacement canopy for your Supercar. Check around. Thanks for the kind words.
