"IT'S CLOBBERIN' TIME!" THE HULK VERSUS THE THING...

Here's another blockbustin' belter from the backyard of bygone days - HULK Vs. The THING, in four classic slug-it-out fight-fests from the '60s & '70s. Once again, I'm surprised to see that this magical mag hails from 1999 - making it around ten or eleven years older than I thought it was. (Sixteen years ago? Really?) Regarding the last tale, I always like JIM STARLIN art inked by JOE SINNOTT, because it reminds me of the covers they collaborated on for early issues of the UK weekly The MIGHTY WORLD Of MARVEL back in the faraway fields of the 1970s.

So have you read all four titanic tussles, true-believer? (No? Then just where've you been, Melvin? And yes, I'd say you're right! It should've been five, but seemingly there wasn't space for FF #12.) Assuming that you have one, which of them is your favourite? Don't hold back now - put your typing fingers into action and tell your fellow Criv-ites all about it. You know what a bunch of nosey-parkers (sticky-beaks) we are! The floor's all yours!

Phil said...: There was a story where Ben Grimm and Hulk change bodies and the Thing was beating the Hulk. So one must wonder how much of the Hulk's success is from being as big as the Hulk and how much from getting stronger as he gets angrier.; 22 March 2015 at 00:39
Kid said...: That was in Giant-Size Super Stars #1 Starring The Fantastic Four, Phil. The Hulk, in The Thing's body, was beating The Thing in The Hulk's body, so I think the fact that The Hulk usually beat The Thing was down to The Hulk's savagery, and not necessarily being bigger and stronger. About the artist:

From 1985 to 2000 A.D. (little joke there), I contributed to a variety of high profile comics and magazines for various companies.

For IPC/FLEETWAY/EGMONT, I freelanced as a lettering and logo artist on various weekly comics and monthly magazines, and also as a resize comic artist and spot illustrator on pocket books, summer specials and annuals.

For MARVEL U.K., BLACK LIBRARY, REDAN and USBORNE BOOKS, I again freelanced as a lettering artist, also working as a restoration artist for MARVEL U.S., restoring and re-creating certain pages of JACK KIRBY art for their MARVEL MASTERWORKS editions.

I also lettered the MARVELMAN sample pages submitted to MARVEL U.S. when they were considering acquiring the character, which - as we all now know - they DID.

Supplied comic strips, cartoons and illustrated advertisements for local business campaigns and newspaper publication on a professional basis since the age of 16. Did my first paid art job for publication at 14 or 15 for Lanarkshire Education Board.

Have also made TV appearances as a collector of memorabilia.
