Back in 1984, MARVEL U.S. decided to colour the black and white stories that had been appearing in MARVEL U.K.'s DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE and release them in a monthly comicbook specially aimed at American fans of the TARDIS-travelling Time Lord. It lasted for 23 issues and was quite an impressive mag which surely deserved to survive for much longer than it did. However, despair ye not, true believers - through the courtesy of Kid's very own Kosmic Kube, we're now going on the first part of a journey through the past to look again at all 23 covers.

Not only William Hartnell,that Jon Pertwee is dodgy.
He looks like Liberace.
I would never have looked at these covers with any interest,but that was cool.
Yeah, but at least Jon Pertwee had his hair. Not the best Dave Cockrum art I've ever seen, but he was probably working from dodgy photos. Are you not a big fan of Dave Gibbons, Baab, or is it just Doctor Who that doesn't float your boat?
The Five Doctors might as well have been Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, mick & Tich - none of them portray the doctors I knew from my childhood.
But seeing these covers was great.
Then you'll be sure to enjoy the ones yet to come, Tongalad. (I though the Peter Cushing one wasn't too bad.)
Dave Gibbons is great.
He is probably the reason I gave the covers any attention.
My Doctor was Jon Pertwee,I began watching Patrick Troughton,but I was too young to associate anything with him.
I watched Tom Baker for a wee while but the show did nothing for me.
I have watched since David Tennant and Matt Smith along with my kids and its fine most of the time.
I like the artwork on these covers, I just don't have any connection with them.
I would never read a Doctor Who comic,even though I love time travel shenanigans.
I reckon its down to disliking Look-In magazine.
There was just something about short adaptations of t.v. shows that made me cringe.
The american comics got me when I was but a child.
I do wonder how Tom Baker looked to an american comicbook fan.
Kid, these have been the most interesting covers you have posted so far, I barely glanced at any of the previous series (I secretly hope that cover scans are not going to be the most regular feature of your blog, but if they are popular with others I guess you will stick with it). I personally have never had any interest in these comic adaptions of Doctor Who or any other merchandise related to the show, but somehow Dave Gibbons' artwork makes it more interesting. As to The Five Doctors illustration; I actually thought the Peter Cushing one was Alan Napier who played Alfred in the 1960's Batman TV show and I was trying to figure out the context of why he was there.

Regarding the cover galleries, Marko, it's either them or boring reminiscences about my past and items of old furniture and toys, etc. I presume that readers would prefer to look at the pretty pictures from the comics.
You've done it again! - Yet another series I hasn't seen ( but knew of ) . I DID manage to get hold of the 4 x DW US Marvel Premieres, but by the early 90' s all traces of US comics had disappeared from our town. So thanks for sharing with us now.
I've definitely got the first two Marvel Premiere Doctor Whos (might have all four, can't remember), the first of which I bought from the platform booth in Portsmouth's train station in 1981. When I can remember where they are, I'll get around to posting them, JP.
