In the previous post, I asked you what one comic from your childhood you'd love to own again if you don't already have it. Someone responded by saying they'd like to have BATMAN #197 (if I worked things out correctly*), so I thought I'd treat him to a little preview of what he can expect when he eventually tracks down a copy. CATWOMAN's looking rather kinky indeed. I wonder why the commenter would like to re-acquire this issue, eh? (As if we didn't all know!)

Catwoman made surprisingly few appearances in the Silver Age, considering that she was (not so surprisingly) one of the most popular villains on the TV series. The usual explanation seems to be that the Comics Code Authority had a rule against portraying criminals as glamorous or attractive, and CW was both. Oddly, she was allowed to carry a whip, but Madame Hydra (in the Steranko issues of Captain America) had to settle for a rope. Her costume in Batman #197 was obviously based on the TV show, although I don't know why they changed it from black to green. I've seen black cats, but never a green one.
BTW, IIRC, Catwoman wore the TV-inspired costume one more time, in Batman #201. I think #256 had a feature listing her various costume changes from 1940 to the 1970s-TC

Funnily enough, looking at that artwork it doesn't ring any bells... but the memory is a tricky thing, isn't it? I'll have to track this issue down. Hope it's not too expensive... I might have to have a whip round...
It's always possible it's another issue, Cerebus. I just thought that the 'whipping' pictures fitted your description, but maybe it was typical of Catwoman's behaviour.
It may have been Batman #210 (1969). In that issue, Catwoman had a gang of eight or nine women in cat costumes, and the cover showed her using a whip (probably a cat o' nine tails) to lasso Batman. -TC

That could well be the issue. I definitely remember Catwoman having a gang of feline felons doing her dirty work. That's another issue I'll have to track down :-)

I've just re-read your original comment in the previous post, Cerebus, and you do say 'feline felons' - so #210 seems the likely choice. In my haste, I thought you were refering to run-of-the-mill crooks - my mistake. Anyway, I'm sure you enjoyed these pages as a warm-up to the main event.
Actually, when I was five or six, I thought it was cool that I (coincidentally) had the same initials as Top Cat. :) -TC

I'll have to hit Ebay and look for both of those issues.
BTW some of that dialogue doesn't look too authentic: references to "fisting" and "lube"? Unusual for a Frank Robbins script, really...
Oops! I should've read them before posting. I've now deleted the 'offending' items. I'll see about replacing them with bonafide pages.
