Recently, my blog's sidebar was taking around 30 seconds to show whenever I refreshed my browser. Regular reader CJ said it took a couple of minutes or so to show at his end. I looked online for how to fix the problem. but could find no solution. On a whim, I decided to remove the Link Within gadget as it was no longer working anyway, and the problem was solved immediately. If you've been having the same trouble, go into layout and remove that particular gadget - instant success! CJ can let me know if it's sorted at his end.
This has been a Crivens public service announcement.

Yes, that's a lot better it was taking me several minutes to download your sidebar on my phone but not as long on my tablet.
Now all we need do is sort out your comments section and we're laughing, McS.
Kid, on this particular tablet the sidebar downloaded instantly so I assume it'll be the same on my laptop and other tablets.
Kid, I left a test comment mentioning Black Magic on Paul's blog and it's still there so far.
Hopefully so, CJ. Good thinking on my part, eh, regarding the link within widget?
As is McS's use of the name, but none of mine - strange, CJ.
I've just checked on Paul's blog and my test comment has vanished!
Like I said, CJ - strange.
I've checked my set up etc and everything seems ok. I can't understand why certain replies aren't showing and others have. I have opened the replies to anyone, not just Google but doubt that will help. To be honest, my blogs starting to cause more tech issues than it's worth.
Sorry, I meant to add apologies to you both for this
Ok that's it sorted for now those messages went into my spam folder for some reason. Colin I didn't publish yours as it was a test
What was happening, McS, was that comments were showing initially, but then they'd disappear from view if I refreshed my browser or revisited your blog. Don't be disheartened and don't stop doing the blog as your readers would miss it. However, it's still odd that only comments that mentioned Black Magic comic were disappearing (apart from your own).
It is strange Kid I can't see a reason as it's only for this post, so it could be B**** M**** ref. I seem to recall a similar issue happening a few years ago when replies were late or like this were not showing at all It does get a bit annoying with all these tech issues the last one where no updates were showing on other blogs was the worst , my views dropped to under 300 a month .
Then I'd better not depress you by telling you that my views today are 11,423, McS. (Oops, I just did.) Though I imagine most of these visits are people dropping in and jumping right out again without ever reading anything. However, I hope that some people enjoy what I write.
That's a really good number Kid. My blog is not as interactive ( or as interesting) as your blog as interesting as I'm just focused on showing my fav comics from my youth. My normal monthly allowance in views are between 17k and ( on a good month) 25k which I'm happy with but the recent 300 (it was actually only 286) individual blog page views was a concern lol.
I sometimes feel my blog isn't as interesting as I'd like it to be (and try to make it), McS, but I do my best and appreciate readers taking time to comment. Sometimes, when I'm in my bed, a great idea for a post will occur to me, but I've forgotten what it was by the time I awaken. The recent 'There Can Be Only One...' post was an exception.
Oh I meant to reply to that one but was travelling down south ( exhausting with a travel averse mini dachshund ) on 4 trains.
Never too late, McS. It'd be interesting to read your response to it.
Kid, you could keep a notebook by your bed so you can write down any good ideas.
But that would mean waking up a bit and turning on my bedside light, and I'm too lazy and too tired for that when I'm nice and comfy and cozy in my scratcher, CJ.
I think my blog was having issues several years ago and I ended up removing some items, including Linked In. Blogger is sort of quirky anyway, but it's what I'm used to dealing with. I can't believe that I figured out how to do some of the stuff that I do on it. I'm sure there are easier ways to do things that I'm not aware of, but it's all good right now.
I find that Blogger sometimes makes changes on things that don't need to be changed, G. For example, downloading pictures; used to be you could download several pics at the same time in sequential order. Then they changed it so that they downloaded in reverse order if you tried to do more than one, meaning you had to do them one at a time. Like you say, though - it's what we're used to. (Until they change things again.)
