The RETURN Of ULYSSES...

Saturday August 1st.  Today is precisely 39 years since my parents, myself, and the dog* returned to the house in which, along with my brother, we'd lived for 11 years before moving elsewhere.  Four years later we moved back (sans brother), and those 39 years don't seem one whit longer than our previous period of habitation.  Sometimes I have difficulty remembering precisely when certain events took place; was it during our first stay or our second?  It's hard to recall exactly, unless I can associate something with a cover-dated comic.  (Out of the last 56 years, I've spent 52 of them in my current home.)

Anyway, just thought I'd mark the occasion.  But where the hell did the last 39 years go?

*It was a different dog, though of the same breed (German Shepherd).  Tara died three years into our stay in that other house, her successor, Zara, joined our family in our last year there.  Also, although we moved back in on the 1st, the official tenancy commencement date was Tuesday 4th.

Dogs seem germane, to this title. After all, on Ulysses returning home in disguise, only his very old dog recognized him. However, if your brother became absent (second move?), perhaps a dog-recognition analogy with Ulysses returning home, would work better for him!

My brain can't be working this morning, P, 'cos I can't quite grasp what you're saying . My fault I'm sure. Work better for Ulysses or my sibling?

For a (semi ) witty analogy to fit your post's 'Ulysses' title, your old dog would have to not recognize you, returning home. However, that wouldn't fit, as you & the dog returned to your old home, together, as part of the family. Your brother, however, had a stint away from the home you returned to (although I may have misunderstood that). Therefore, he could be 'Ulysses' (in the analogy), having his old dog recognize him. It's a very tenuous/strained, and poor, analogy.

I'll get my coat...

Thing is, though, P, my brother didn't return to the house with us as he had his own flat (apartment) by then. Also, the old dog had died a year before, so it was our new dog who moved 'back' to the house with us.

I'll get an aspirin...

You find your own ladies, AAW, I'm not known for sharing. (Not even imaginary ones.)

There are two (TWO!) recent movies about Ulysses/Odysseus - The Odyssey and The Return.

I doubt I'll see either of them,CJ, 'cos I know how the story ends.
