THRILLING ADVENTURE STORIES #1...

Copyright relevant owner

Just taken possession of Thrilling Adventure Stories #1 and am waiting for #2 to arrive, hopefully tomorrow or Monday.  Published by Atlas/Seaboard in 1974/'75, it lasted for only two issues before vanishing off the face of the earth when the publisher 'took down his tent and got off the grass'.  I'll show off number 2 when it gets here, but in the meantime, enjoy some interior images from the first ish.

Did any of you have this mag back in the day, Crivs?  If so, what did you think of it?

Seeing Atlas/Seaboard mags always gives me a wee twinge of nostalgia and reminds me of my school days . I really liked their black and white mags and Thrilling Adventure Comics was my favourite of their books. Issue 1 is nice but issue 2 is a belter.

And you'll be seeing that 'belter' soon, McS, once it arrives at Castel Crivens. I know I had #1 back in the day, but I'll have to see the interiors of #2 before I can remember whether I had it or not.

This publisher began just after I moved to the US and I bought all their titles hoping the sales would help them succeed. The b/w mags reminded me of British style weekly comics and I was disappointed when they failed.
My full set of their publications was donated to MoCCA when we moved 20 or so years ago.

They were a result of spite, T47, in that Martin Goodman set up Atlas Comics to try and damage Marvel, the new purchasers of whom had favoured Stan Lee over Goodman's son Chip. Consequently, I don't think enough forethought had gone into the overall line, which seemed a bit rushed, ideas-wise, in order to get as many mags on the stands as soon as possible.

Stanley Baxter has died aged 99 - the last of the big TV stars of the '70s.

All 13 episodes of the original Flash Gordon serial have been colourised and can be seen on YouTube.

Knew about Stanley Baxter yesterday, CJ. His soup was good. (Pea and ham - from a chicken?)
