I was browsing idly through some old blog posts earlier today and noticed one published on Christmas Day back in 2013, which featured a Mattel 6 inch Batman figure. Were you to visit Castel Crivens today in the flesh and see it, then ask me when I got it, I'd have casually replied "Oh, three or four years back" - so to see it was nearly 12 years ago is quite a shock to the system. That's a longer duration than my entire time at school and most houses I've ever lived in, with one exception - my current one. Just doesn't feel like it.
In the aforesaid post, I mentioned my intention to get the Batmobile for the figure, as well as Robin, but I never imagined it would take as long as it actually did (Dec '24), though it doesn't feel very long at all. I've likely asked this question of you before, but do you ever cast your eyes around your room and see certain items you think of as fairly recent acquisitions, only to be flabbergasted when you remember that you obtained them many years, even decades ago, and just how many changes have occurred in your life since then?

I'm useless at remembering dates so couldn't say for definite when I acquired something but more recent purchases are foggier than older ones. I could probably say roughly when in 70s/80s/90s but the 2000s would be a mystery to me. The other thing is WHERE I purchased things. Pre 21C I could say where I bought something but looking around the lounge (we moved in 2014) I wouldn't know where half the stuff came from.
It's strange how one's earlier memories are usually more indelible than more recent ones. However, nowadays I find that though I could once remember which shops I bought a comic in my boyhood and teenage years with great accuracy, I'm not always quite so sure now.
I was in my attic over the weekend and stumbled across my still boxed and mint, Atlantis models, limited T Rex Aurora re-issue. I couldn't believe I'd aquired it 12 years ago for £28.00. Today if you can find one unmade and boxed, it's usually selling for £100. 'Time does fly...'
When I bought my boxed Golden Gate Steve Zodiac and Zoony on a Jetmobile back around the mid '90s, it cost me £500. Last time I saw one for sale, the asking price was at least £1,500. Seems like I got mine only a few years back so the inflated price was a surprise to me. Same goes for the Aurora Glow-in-the-Dark Monster models. I got my boxed unbuilt ones around 30 years back for £30 each or thereabouts, yet now the asking price is hundreds. Seems like only yesterday I bought mine.
Great investment Kid, but as we both know it's never for the money. For me it's the connection back to nicer times, that gives true value. By the way, your Batman figure really resembles Adam West around the face.
Oh, I didn't mean to suggest that I thought it was WORTH £1,500, I was just surprised at the jump. The monetary value is of no interest to me 'cos I'll never sell, it's (as you say) the connection to happier times. I got my first Steve & Zoonie in a shop called Mapes, in Millport in 1968, and that's the year my mind returns to whenever I look at it. There's a photo of me as a kid on the blog somewhere, holding it on the day after purchase.
Meant to say, yes, the likeness to Adam West is excellent, as is the version by McFarlane Toys, also on the blog somewhere.

There's a wooden folding chair in my bedroom that goes all the way back to 1978 but because I see it all the time I often forget quite how old it is. We had a party for my sister's 10th birthday on September 1st 1978 but we didn't have enough chairs so we borrowed 3 or 4 from the village hall and they were never returned for some reason (laziness I assume). Anyway one of those chairs ended up in my current house and it sometimes amazes me to think it's been around since I was 12 years old.
Great wee reminiscence, CJ, just the kind I was looking for. However, stealing chairs from the village hall is a criminal offence and the police will be around shortly to arrest you. I've got a wooden chair in my bedroom which has been in every bedroom I remember since I was an infant.
