Two covers, 5 years apart, both illustrating the same story in each case. Here's a simple question for ya, Crivvies - which one do you prefer - and why? Ditko and Romita, on the character they were arguably most associated with - it's a tough call!

In Ditko's version, Spidey seems to be leisurely lowering himself into the gathering villains (or waiting for them to assemble); whereas in Romita's version, it's all happening and Spidey's right in the thick of it. So I'd say Jazzy Johnny's cover has the edge - though I think I prefer the colouring on Spidey's costume on Sturdy Steve's rendition. I'd like to have seen Stevey using Johnny's layout though.
I don't think Ditko's cover is helped by the positioning of that big cover 'blurb' in the corner, McS. I'd say it should've been smaller, but yeah - Romita's version just steals the prize.
Ditto on Romita. The characters of Sandman, Doc Ock and Mysterio are all much more active in his version, whereas in Ditko’s, poor Mysterio nearly gets lost in the shuffle.
Yeah, Mysterio looks as if he was added in at the last minute.
Both artists have created great and classic covers but Romita is my favourite...just.
