CAPTAIN BRITAIN STRIKES AGAIN...

Copyright MARVEL COMICS

Having recently re-shown you all 39 covers to Marvel UK's Captain Britain '70s weekly comic, I thought I should strike while the iron is hot and re-present the covers from his 14 issue '80s monthly mag as well.  So here they are!  Shame it didn't last longer 'cos it was a good wee periodical, but it lives on in memory - as well as in my collection of pristine issues bought back in the day.

Yes, these images were scanned from my originals a few years back, so here they are again to allow you to indulge in your own personal nostalgia if you read these comics when they were first published.  Feel free to leave a comment sharing your reminiscences or observations - if you have any.  (If not, use your imagination and make some up.  I won't know - or mind.)

This is the first time I've ever seen these covers. I don't know anything about Captain Britain after he was dropped from Super Spider-Man in December 1977.

Actually, you saw them when I first posted them, CJ, and even left a comment (which you later deleted) on part one (I know 'cos I remarked on it at the time), and there's a comment which might be by you in part two. The ol' memory must be going - just like mine, eh?

I have most if not all of these beauties tucked away in a box somewhere. The art is delicious and the story truly strange, at least by the standards of the 80's. I always wanted Captain Britain to join the mainstream Marvel Universe and then he did and to my mind got stranded in the X-verse when they concocted Excalibur. I always saw Britain as an Avenger.

And the stories looked even better when they were coloured for a collected edition, McS. Some of them were also later reprinted in the modern MWOM.

Now there's an idea, RJ. It would've been interesting to see Cap Brit as an Avenger. Maybe Marvel should even have an Avengers UK team, with any/all their other British heroes. Union Jack and, and - er, are there any others?

Paul Grist did a UK superhero group for Marvel called The Union ( never read it as Grist didn't draw it) that had a hero from each of the 4 UK constituent countries so there's at least 4 there. I also seem to recall a Scottish hero called Saltire that appeared in the F2F . There are also a few X-Men that I think are from here, though the may be from Republic of Ireland. Incidentally, when I was about 14 I had a superhero group called The Union, I think I should she Marvel 😋

That I'd like to see, McS - you suing Marvel/Disney I mean. Having said that, you might get lucky and reach an out-of-court settlement. A pound doesn't go far these days though.

Kid, as soon as I sent my previous comment I realised I d probably seen those covers before on Crivens as you said you were re-presenting them. I should have said I didn't remember seeing them before - unlike the covers of the CB weekly which I certainly did remember from before!

I thought that perhaps you were making up not seeing them before, seeing as I'd said in the post that people could. One day, CJ, you should go back to the beginning of my blog and work your way through - there's loads of good stuff (and cr*p) that you've probably never read before.

Kid, I already HAVE gone back to the beginning of your blog - Crivens was originally called Kiddin' Around.

Nah, you're kiddin'. Refresher course?
