TRUE BELIEVERS - AKA THE INCREDIBLE HULK #6...

Copyright MARVEL COMICS

As all true believers know, The INCREDIBLE HULK's own mag lasted for only six issues back in the '60s, but he was eventually awarded his own strip again in the pulsating pages of TALES To ASTONISH.  STEVE DITKO, who'd drawn Hulkie's final individual issue, again took up the art chores in Greenskin's new home, but that's a whole other story.  What we're here to rap about today is this great reprint in, appropriately enough, MARVEL's TRUE BELIEVERS series, of the Jade Goliath's sixth and last ish of his own mag.  Ain't it a beauty?!  Stop what you're doing and run out and buy one right away.

Bought this last week and it's a cracker! Ditto isn't someone I normally think of as a Hulk artist, but he does a great job here.

Incidentally Kid, I bought another lovely artifact today, the Roy of the Rovers 65th anniversary special, a really nice (but expensive) collection of strips, articles and interviews. Great ti see that Rebellion are going to be reprinting Billy's Boots too. Maybe with football being so popular these days this could be a way to boost what remains of the UK comics industry.

Ditko also inked Hulk #2 (Toad Men) and the combination of his inks and Kirby's pencils are a delight. As it only ran 6 issues, Marvel should do individual facsimile copies of each one.

Not all football fans are comics fans though, DS, so maybe not. I'm undecided as to whether I'll get the Roy of the Rovers Special, but I might get the Billy's Boots one.

Facsimiles of all 6 original Hulk comics would be amazing. I'd also love to see a facsimile of the first Hulk annual with the Inhumans and THAT Steranko cover!

I suspect very few football fans like comics, but in this world where vintage=trendy to many people, maybe some of 'em would be tempted to pick up a Billy's Boots or Hot Shot Hamish comic.

A facsimile of the first ish is due out in October, DS - I've already ordered and paid for mine. I daresay some football fans would be tempted to pick up a Billy's Boots or Hot-Shot Hamish comic, but whether it would be enough to make the venture worthwhile is uncertain. Given the cost of launching a new comic, publishers would be reluctant to take the risk unless they knew it was a sure thing.

I have about three Masterworks volumes, an Epic Collection, and an Omnibus edition of all the early Hulk stories, but I just can't resist buying them again when they pop up as individual issues. Really love the cover of #5 so I'd like to see a TB or Facsimile Edition of that. Regarding the Hulk's mask, PM, I think that was just for the purpose of providing drama for that particular story, there doesn't seem to be any indication that it was going to be anything more than a one-off.
