THE FABULOUS FANTASTIC FOUR BY THE AWESOME ALEX ROSS (UPDATED)...

Copyright MARVEL COMICS

Don't know about you, but I just love this fabulous FANTASTIC FOUR illustration by awesome artist ALEX ROSS.  It reminds me so much of my own work, it just isn't true.  (That'll be because it just isn't true!)  Great picture, eh?

And below is the JACK KIRBY/JOE SINNOTT splash page from (as Comicsfan reminded me) FF #83 that inspired the talented Mr. Ross to produce his valiant version - with the addition of SUE RICHARDS.

If only they'd use that illo as the concept art for any further FF movies! Reed and Johnny look spot on - Sue and the Thing do tend to vary a bit I guess, depending on when you first read 'em? They shouldn't vary to the point of Jessica Alba, though?

I dunno why, given the incredible amount of meaningless FX they've proved they can spew at the screen in Avengers Endgame (watched it yesterday, wasn't impressed), they don't just do a FF movie with a brief origin flashback sequence, and then their 1st mission as a team is Galactus landing on their roof? I first read that in the 1st FF treasury when I was about 6 - it blew my mind then and it still does now! What other FF story demands faithful big screen treatment? Then they could do the wedding in the sequel, with every bugger turning up?

I couldn't be bothered seeing again what they've already done in the first two movies, HS (never saw the third one), so I agree with a brief flashback of the origin (the comicbook one), then "The Skrull Takes A Slave!" storyline, where The Thing is kidnapped to take part in the 'Great Games'. That's what I want to see.

With the exception of Sue's addition, it looks like Mr. Ross has been taking a gander at the splash page of FF #83--but it's a nice adaptation. :)

Yes, I know it was based on a Kirby splash, but I couldn't remember which issue. I was going to add the info later when I'd had a chance to check, so thanks for saving me from that onerous task, CF.

Alex Ross drew a great cover for the revived Savage Sword Of Conan #1.

I've got it, CJ, but I'll need to take another look to refresh my memory. It can't compare to the FF one in my view though, 'cos this one has my girlfriend Susie in it.
