LYCANTHROPIC LARRY TALBOT IS A BIT OF A HOWL (UPDATED)...

Thought all you Criv-ites might like a look at an AURORA WOLF MAN kit I built and painted for someone.  It took me many months, as I can only apply myself to things for very short periods at a time before becoming fatigued (due to a medical condition), but I think the eventual results were worth waiting for.  What say the rest of you?

It's a howling success, Kid, but why didn't your friend build and paint his own model, the lazy b*gger. Just "were" was he, eh ? I hope he said fangs very much when you handed over the finished model !

He knew I'd enjoy doing it, CJ, and he didn't want to deprive me of the sense of accomplishment that comes from a good job well done. (Modest, ain't I?) When he saw it, he gave it a wolf-whistle, then howled in delight.

Had this one back in the day, and speaking of lazy beggars - I never got around to painting it as I recall, though I probably wasn't confident enough at the time, aged 10 or 11. Bought it as much for the box art (by the great Larry Bama) as for the contents. Since lost over time as I no longer have it. Where the hell do some of these things go? One minute you're a kid and there it is on the shelf, and seems like next minute you're all grown up thinking about something you used to have. Good paint job on the kit, Kid. Still buy the odd kit these days, usually Dinosaurs, and I do paint them now.

Funnily enough, PC, the Wolf Man isn't one I used to have, but a pal had it back in '70/'71. I've got the Luminator version, plus an unbuilt kit, which one day I'll hopefully get around to completing. (I've got loads of model kits still in their boxes.) Where do these things go? Blame mothers; you go to school one day, and when you come back, another childhood friend has mysteriously 'disappeared'. Which box did you have - the long box or the square one? And if it was the long box, which version? The art was changed because parents complained that the box art didn't match the contents. Nowadays, there are several kits available which resemble the original Aurora box art, and pretty impressive they are too.

Best that I can recall it was a long (or tall) box with the Lon Chaney Jr Wolf Man peering out from between the branches. I think that you are right about mothers - we see treasured collectables - they see clutter that you've probably 'grown out of'.

Yeah, that was the original box art. After complaints, it was changed to resemble the Wolf Man figure inside. As for mothers, that's how I 'lost' my first two teddies, my rocking horse, my potty, and loads of comics, toys and other things that were destined for a museum devoted to me when I become famous (Nurse, he's away again). However, they were all given away or thrown out.

Glorious, great job! Love Aurora kits

Ta, AJ. Their monster and superhero kits were brilliant. Some parts don't fit as well as they should and need a bit of work, but that's the same with any company's kits.

That's how it is with mothers. Broken lamps and cracked mirrors clutter up the attic or basement for years. But you go to college, or the army, or just to summer camp, or even when you get home after a normal school day, and your near-mint copy of Journey Into Mystery #83 or your glow-in-the-dark Wolf Man model kit is gone.

And "Oh, you were far too old for them!" is their response when you register your dismay, TC. Then we spend the rest of our lives trying to re-acquire those treasures from our youth.

My parents would never have thrown away my belongings without asking me !! And Kid, only you would still cherish your potty !

Yes, but you know why, don't you, CJ? It's because I'm a little 'potty' myself.

Just looking back over the comments and noticed something in my first: 'Larry" Bama? - of course I meant James Bama. But you knew that. One of the few benefits of getting older is to blame it for the odd mental mix-up!

I did know it was James, but your use of 'Larry' went over my head, PC. No doubt because the name was part of the title and therefore didn't jump out at me. That'll also explain what caused your temporary 'mental mix-up'.
