THE VESSEL WITH THE PESTLE...

Here's a classic clip from DANNY KAYE's
film, The COURT JESTER.  If you haven't seen
this movie, straight down to HMV with you.  It's
available on DVD and is a great laugh.

Danny Kaye's daughter said that people would come up to him in restaurants and recite the "flagon with the dragon has the pellet with the poison" routine.

There was a similar scene in Bob Hope's Never Say Die (1939), with a set of dueling pistols. "The cross is on the handle of the pistol with the bullet, the nick is on the handle of the pistol with the blank."

Bob also did a similar scene in one of his Paleface movies, TC. Great stuff.

This routine was unashamedly " nicked" , to good effect , in 'Allo, 'Allo! with the gateau in the chateau/ the pill in the till/ the candle with the 'andle & the drug in the jug!

I'd like to see that, JP. I'll have to check if it's on YouTube.
