Here's a page from the 1976 PINK PANTHER Holiday Special. Clever, witty, and funny - which anyone of any age can appreciate. Is it just me, or are most of today's comics for kids falling short of this standard of humour? In fact, are they even funny anymore? Feel free to question my parentage in the comments section.

Was this by Larry Harman? - It's just that Ollie Hardy pic could have come straight out of the Larry Harman's L&H comic books!
The comics were based on Larry Harmon's animated L&H animated series (Larry did the voice of Stan Laurel), and TV Comic also ran a strip based on the look of the cartoon. So it may well have been the same artist who drew this Panther strip that also drew the British L&H one, but I don't know his name offhand. I used to have a little red or orange L&H single when I was a kid which had lyrics to their theme tune. "When I'm with you and you're with me, then we will never be individually..."
...whilst I bought "The Trail Of The Lonesome Pine"!
So did I - still got the original one I bought back in the '70s.

The real culprit I see in all of this is a sort of cynicism that has crept into much of the entertainment industry these days. The kind of humor we liked as kids may not seem palatable to today's audience given how different we think, or overthink these matters. I could picture someone commenting on why would an agent go through the trouble to hire a talented individual like Pink, only to force him to be the snack guy anyway. Some people hard time accepting humor when they have to analyze it. That's my problem with the whole thing, people need to stop thinking that hard about it.
That's undoubtedly part of it, Chris, but I think another reason is that they're aiming surviving British humour comics at an even younger readership, so the humour isn't as sophisticated as it used to be. And maybe some of the writers aren't as good either.
Good point. I'm sure the writing has gone downhill when they shook off the established fans.
Yup, indeedy.
