"SURE, JOSIE, SURE, JOSIE - SURE, SURE, SURE..."

Right, here's the set-up: FRANCIE (Jack Milroy) is playing the girl and JOSIE (Rikki Fulton) is playing the guy at the dancing in Glasgow.  That's all you really need to know.  Take it away, chinas...

It'll be interesting to see how this one travels. I just wish I'd got to see them in their prime.

I think they were still using the same material, GB, so it wouldn't have been much different. Did you ever see their TV show in the '60s?

Didn't see them live or on the telly, Kid, but I did have an LP they recorded back then — the cover has them standing in front of a tenement close with their outfits on.
The most disconcerting thing about that clip is how old they look - particularly Jack Milroy - especially because the suits and brothel creepers give them the same appearance they had back then.

I've got that same LP, wherein I keep my autograph of Rikki Fulton, which he signed for me when I met him in John Menzies back in May 1982. The LP is still available on CD by the way. I don't know if you've read it, but I recounted my meeting with Rikki in the post 'Hullorerr Chinas - the day I met the legendary Rikki Fulton...' - it's perhaps worth a look.

Aye, that's the one, although, judging by Francie's salmon pink suit, it looks as if you've had your copy lying out in the sun too long, Kid. I remember having a laugh when Rikki Fulton turned up as a KGB officer in Gorky Park, but he was very good at playing it straight.
You'll be aware, no doubt, that it was Stanley Baxter who originally came up with the 'look' for the characters — teddy boy suits, brothel-creeper shoes and wigs — and it was he who originally played Francie on stage to Fulton's Josie.

Kid, I've never actually heard of these two before which really surprises me as plenty of Scottish comedians are well known south of the border - Susan Calman was on Radio 4's "Sorry I Haven't a Clue" just this past week (I love that show) and everyone from Billy Connolly to Frankie Boyle has made it big so how come I don't know these? From GB's comment I assume the suits they are wearing are their trademark look ?

If you're talking about that other post, that's the CD cover, GB. Id heard that story, but couldn't remember if it was Stanley Baxter, Jimmy Logan or Johnny Beattie. Hard to imagine anyone else as Francie 'though, eh?

******

Never heard of Francie & Josie, Col? Hand in your honorary Scotsman badge at once. Guess you're just too young - their heyday was in the '60s ('though they were legends right up 'til they passed). Yup, that's their trademark look, sure enough.
