CRIVENS CLASSIC COVERS - LOOK-IN ON AYSHEA...

Copyright relevant owner

Look at the question on the above 1973 cover of LOOK-IN - 'What's ROY WOOD doing with AYSHEA?'  Well, if the rumours about them dating at the time were true, that's not really a question that needed asking - it was pretty bloody obvious what he'd be doing with her - and she to him!  (What?  I'm only referring to kissing, you filthy-minded lot.)  Ayshea wrote for Look-In (or at least her name was used), so it's no surprise that her image should make an appearance on the cover as well.  Why the artist made her quite so gormless-looking is anyone's guess, but it's a nice painting.

It doesn't get much more 70's than this!
Any chance of posting some internal pages, if not from this issue then maybe at least from this era? They had some great artists, but I'd also like to see some pop pages if they featured Bolan, Sweet or Slade...let's rock!

I only have a cover image for this ish, HS, but I do have some other issues of Look-In. Whenever I remember where they're stashed, I'll post some internal pages.

Does anyone remember Ayshea doing Woody's song, "Farewell"?
I bought the single on 45 rpm!

I can't remember, JP - will look at the link.

I loved it - you can actually hear Roy Wood doing this himself in your mind!
Even though he never actually recorded it himself!

Haven't had a chance to watch it yet, JP. I will soon.

I used to watch Lift Off with Ayshea way back when. She was a great pop TV host for young 'uns like me and it was a bonus seeing her again in UFO. I adored Look-In as a nipper and subscribed to it via the local Newsagent. it was delivered by a real paper boy with our address scrawled on the top, 24 Powis Rd. I can see it now. Alas my stack of Look-Ins was ditched when we had to leave the parental home but I managed to hold onto a few covers connected to Kung-Fu and Kwai Chang Cain. Somewhere I even have the gold dragon brooch that was a free gift with the comic.Happy days!

I was a late starter with Look-In - didn't start buying it until around the mid-'70s, and only for a short while. I've got the first and last issues now though, with a handful of odd ones in between. Got the two 'Best of' books as well, which are quite nice. Do you ever wonder if any kids live in your old house now who might get their comics delivered by the paperboy (different one, obviously), with 24 Powis Rd. written on them?

Yep, I saw those Best of Books Kid but I have to be choosy these days as I have a habit of hoarding books! That's a nice idea about a new paper boy going to my old address! I've often toyed with the idea of re-buying the house but it hasn't been possible. Now, 40 years later, it would be like ghost central going back. And are there any paper boys around any more?

There's one round my way called Russell. (Rustle - paper boy - geddit?) I think they still must exist, because a newsagents down the road from me (closed about a year or so back) was always looking for paperboys and girls to deliver to people. As for ghosts, as long as they're friendly ones, then it's not so bad. Besides, ghosts (of the kind we're talking about) are everywhere - they haunt our memories.

I find it difficult going back to where I came from Kid. I left 40 years years ago. In many ways I'm still the 19 year old who left but the City I hail from has changed immeasurably. I wander round looking for familiar things and always feel rather lost. Out of time and out of place.

More and more often these days, I find myself feeling the same as you describe - yet I still reside in the town I've lived in for nearly 60 years, 43 of them in the same house. Out of time and out of place indeed. It shouldn't be so.

When I was a teenager feeling at odds with the world I read a book by Hermann Hesse about a guy who feels at odds with the world. It was called Steppenwolf, a word I've liked ever since. No idea how that book ends but I think I'm a bit like a Steppenwolf these days Kid!

I know the name - I think it was a character in a Tales Of Asgard story in Thor's mag. I'll maybe look up that book, Woodsy.
