Pencilled by Jolly JACK KIRBY, inked by Wondrous WALLY WOOD, and appreciated by lovers of great comicbook art everywhere. Who can look at this page and not feel like they're back in ancient Egypt? Or, at the very least, an MGM production of a movie set in 'The Land of the Pharaohs'. Comic art at its very best, I'm sure you'll agree.

I only had the one issue of the Challs, - the one with the Doom Patrol crossover. One day I really MUST catch up with all those earlier stories!
That must've been a non-Kirby issue, JP, as it's not included in my collected editions. (Or could it have been an ish of The Doom Patrol?) Yes, you really must catch up on those early stories - an Omnibus volume was published a few years back.
Great splash page - I only ever had one issue of the Kirby "Challangers" comic which was fromthe reprint title on the early 1970s. However I did pick up quite a few of the short lived 1977 series which I liked at the time. I have since picked up a few of the Bob Brown issues which had really nice Neal Adams covers.
Yeah, it's a beauty, isn't it? It actually comes from a '70s reprint special. I'd originally taken the image from an Archive volume which had sharper reproduction, but I preferred the colouring on this version so replaced the other page before publishing the post. I'm not too familiar with the Bob Brown issues - must check them out some day.
The Doom Patrol/Challengers crossover was in late 1965-early 1966. I think it may have been a three-part serial that began in Doom Patrol #101, continued in Challengers of the Unknown #48, and concluded in DP #102. Or something like that.
The script was by Arnold Drake. The Doom Patrol issues were drawn by Bruno Premiani, and the Challengers issue was drawn by Bob Brown.
Thanks, TC - if not for you, I'd have to research all those details myself. (And I'm far too lazy.)
It was a two-parter, Kid, - one part in the DP and the other in the Challs. I was lucky enough to come across both comics!
Lucky you indeed, JP. For all I know, I might have a reprint of the stories somewhere, but have forgotten them.
Kirby always did fantastic splash pages for Marvel - in fact, Kirby was "The King" of the splash page and I'm looking forward to the ones you show, Kid. Plenty from Marvel hopefully. By the way, it's a myth that the pyramids were built with slave labour.
Going to be plenty from Marvel and DC, CJ, so keep your eyes peeled.
