LION & THUNDER HOLIDAY SPECIALS...

Copyright REBELLION

Lasting for only 22 issues, THUNDER comic extended its lifespan by merging with LION for 161 weekly numbers, as well as having three solo Annuals, plus three (combined) Lion & Thunder Holiday Specials.  For those who haven't seen them before, I now generously present all three covers of the Specials for your personal pleasure.  Ain't they luverly?  I may show some of the contents at a later date.

He speaks highly of you, Phil. Ernie too. Says you three had a great time back in the '70s.

I was never a massive fan of the summer specials as the artists in them were rarely the same as the regular weekly artist (of course sometimes the art was better) and they always seemed to be really pricey at the time (not sure if they were maybe just my memory) BUT despite that I always looked forward to getting 1 or 2 of these (especially IPC/ Fleetway titles as they were may favourite) and would love to have an few more in my collection (Valiant and Lion were my favourites with Smash) - Seeing "Mowser" always makes me smile a great strip.

They were usually about 2/6d (pre-decimal) and then 15p - from the late '60s into the early '70s. I usually only got a Summer or Holiday Special when a visiting relative pressed a half-crown into my palm on his departure - then it was straight over to the shops the next day to buy that Special I wanted, but couldn't hitherto afford. Mowser was a very humorous strip I thought, McS. I can't think of one strip in today's comics that's as consistently funny as Mowser was - or even comes close, in fact.
