Okay, Crivs - just to give you all something to look at, here's the latest stash of goodies to arrive at Castel Crivens. I do sometimes feel a little guilty about sleeping with that millionaire to get the cash to buy all these things, but I'm sure I'll learn to live with the shame before too long. Mainly 'cos she was a darlin' who I'd have paid to let me sleep with her. (Sorry, didn't mean to confuse you - I should've typed millionairess.) Incidentally, take a look at the splash page of Action Comics #369 - is that a first, do you think, where the story about to be unfolded is shown as an actual comic? Perhaps it was a rejected cover pressed into service as a splash - what do you think, Crivs? The comments section awaits your erudite opinions.

| This CD reissue is from 1999 and was still shrink-wrapped when it arrived. I bought the vinyl LP back in the late '70s or early '80s and also have the soundtrack on a four album, two CD set, but I wanted an individual CD of it in my vast Jim Reeves music collection |

I had that issue of Uncanny X-Men when it first came out and I can even remember the exact date I bought it from WH Smith's along with several other US Marvel comics - Saturday June 7th 1980. Of course it was part of the epic Black Queen/Dark Phoenix saga which I was totally gripped by at the time but unfortunately the double-sized finale (X-Men #137) wasn't available in my local WH Smith's so I acquired it via mail-order a year or so later (and it didn't arrive folded in half I'm glad to say). Sadly Marvel brought Phoenix back to life and the whole Dark Phoenix saga was reduced to a pointless waste of time but it was great while it lasted.
The woman who mentions Superman's boner also says he's human. Errr... He's not.
I didn't know Jim Reeves made a movie. It's on YouTube, I'll watch that at some point.
I'm going to have to buy another one, CJ, as the one I received has a fingerprint on the back and I don't know if it arrived like that or not. I think I read some of these tales in a Marvel UK mag, but I can't be 100% sure without checking and I'm too lazy to do that at the moment.
C'mon, M, it's a woman - Supes looks like a human, talks like a human, makes love like a human, so he's a human. What he isn't is an Earthling (not back then he wasn't, though in the first Crisis series in the mid-'80s he was born on Earth), so arguably he's a Kryptonian human, just not an Earth human.
I also had that issue of X-Men. Me and my brother were given a pile of Marvel comics by a relative and we split them by choosing titles. My brother, being the smarter of the two, chose X-Men and I probably chose some garbage like Machine Man. I did choose Daredevil though because I liked his red suit. Anyway, it wasn't long afterwards that I realised how great X-Men was and I started to collect them. Trips into Birmingham to 'Nostalgia and Comics' to buy new and back issues. We were gutted when #137 was deemed the dreaded 'ND' - Not Distributed and it was a good few months before the shop managed to get some imports. I remember them having #138 before #137 and I was mega peed off that I was missing an issue. Still it was worth the wait (and the extra money!) to get #137, I think that may have been the first time I'd seen a double issue as well. My Marvels are long gone now but the memories are just as precious.
Bring the memories closer and clearer by buying the facsimile editions, M - then you'll have recaptured your past. I don't think I had any of the original issues in this run back in the day, but I've been enjoying catching up via the reprints.
The Hellfire Club/Dark Phoenix saga was reprinted in Rampage magazine, Kid, and concluded in Marvel Superheroes after Rampage was cancelled.
I've got quite a few issues of each mag, CJ, so no doubt I read them at the time, even though I don't recall much about the stories.
I have only read ( and still have my original copy) X-Men #134 of all the comics here. Is the "Davis" noted on the cover of "FF Fanfare" Alan Davis , if so I might pick that up

I notice that your picking up a few conics from the late 1960's, is that your favourite period for comics Kid? Thanks for the info on Alan Davis.
I wouldn't say I restrict myself to that period, McS, but I've been buying a few recently mainly to get all the instalments in continued stories. There's been a few gaps in my collection for many years and I thought I'd better plug them while I still have time. Not getting any younger, are we?
We certainly aren't. I'm the opposite, although I'm still picking up comics in getting rid of far more of them. I just gave around 100 US and UK comics to charity ( most 1980- 1990s) everyone was sold, so kids must still like comics ( unless some old git collector like us picked them up lol).
Betcha that's more than likely the explanation, McS. Or a dealer who'll sell them on for a vast profit.

Call me slow but I hadn't heard the phrase "pull a boner" before - the only boner I'm aware of is...y'know...
It's a well-known (or used to be anyway) US expression for making a mistake, CJ, but the word has a different connotation, as you're well aware. I think it's used both ways in the US, depending on context, though usually only the one way in the UK.
I recently watched a YouTube video in which the presenter flipped through #1 of the US POTA magazine from 1974. I've seen all the US POTA covers in a cover gallery but it was interesting to actually look inside the magazine and see how it was presented. I also watched two YouTube videos which flipped through the two Conan Treasury Editions that I owned - the ones from 1975 and 1978 - and it was fascinating to see the page-by-page layout again after all these years. The '78 TE included a full-page image of King Kull which I'd removed and stuck on my bedroom wall and seeing it again didn't feel like more than 45 years had passed.
Yeah, it's strange how the memory leaps straight back to that point in time, making it seem it's more recent than it actually was, CJ. That happens to me a lot. I've got the first two Conan Treasury Editions; I think there was a third as well, though I don't think I was still buying them at that time, or recall whether I even saw it when it was first published.
Kid, the third Conan TE was the one I bought in 1978 and there was a fourth one too.
I've only got the first two - #4 and #15, CJ, but I'll likely have the stories that appeared in any future ones in other reprints, like the Omnibus volume, the Epic Collections, and Conan Saga.
