Here's a nice book from 2010 that I won at auction recently - for less than its original price. (Oops, my mistake - it was 51p more. I was mixing it up with another item I also won.) I read a handful of pals' Victor comics when I was a kid and bought the occasional free-gift issues as a teenager, but that apart, I wasn't a particular fan of the weekly periodical. Why? Probably because it consisted mainly of War and Sports stories. However, something about the book caught my fancy so I decided it was going to be mine - and it now is! Incidentally, the slightly grubby look in places on the cover is part of its design, not the result of 'shelf (or any other kind of) wear'. I think I'll enjoy reading it. (And it still has its free gift.)
Did any of you read The Victor when you were younger and is this the sort of book you'd like to own? Tell your fellow Crivvies in the comments section. (Or I'll bore you all witless with more shocking Care Home revelations.)

I did read the Victor as young but it wasn't my favourite comic. Like yourself the war element put me off but , as a kid I did like Alf Tupper , the Tough of the Track, Morgyn the Mighty and The Hammer Man. I picked up a near mint copy of this book in a charity shop a few years ago for £2.
It's a nice book, McS, and captures a part of the '60s that I lived through. Well done on getting yours for £2. Mine cost a bit more, but it was still less than the cover price. It's also in near mint condition, just like your copy. You still got it?
Discovering Marvel spared me from having to read British boys' comics like Victor.
Definitely a different kind of storytelling, CJ, but variety, they say, is the spice of life.
Yes I still have the book Kid. I think it's in my loft .
Colin, I wasn't a big fan of DC Thompsons boys comics like the Victor and Hornet but they were cheap and each one had a few good stories. IPC/Fleetway were my favourite with titles like the Lion, Smash, Valiant etc with some really wild characters ters and great art (Steel Claw) so they weren't as bad as you may think.

No 'p' in Thomson, McS. (No, I'm not taking the p.) My favourite IPC comics were Smash! (though I liked the Odhams version at least just as much), Thunder, Buster, Whizzer & Chips, Knockout, etc. Of course, that was in the days when the UK had an ACTUAL comics industry (in the real sense of the word).
That's auto check for you even my second msg with the correct name reverted to the "P" lol . Yeah Buster was a big favourite of mine as well. Thunder was good but sadly it didn't last to long.
I didn't start buying Buster 'til Jet was merged into it, though I'd read a few issues belonging to someone else before that, McS. Thunder lasted 22 issues, as did Jet, and Starlord.I think there was at least one other comic that lasted 22 issues, though I can't recall which one it was
I think Tornado only lasted 22 issues as well.
Yes, that's the one I couldn't remember, McS, though I mentioned its short lifespan in a cover gallery post back in 2017. (Gasp!) Just type Tornado into my search box if you'd like to read it.
