JANUS STARK TAKES ANOTHER BOW...

Copyright REBELLION

Another trip back into the past for me, faithful Crivvies, as The Incredible Adventures Of Janus Stark Volume 3 arrives at Castel Crivens and conjures up memories of my youth.  I'm not sure why Rebellion have opted to reprint these stories in thin volumes as opposed to thicker tomes like Adam Eterno and The Steel Claw, but maybe they'll release an 'omnibus' edition somewhere along the line.  Anyway, whether you've read these tales before or not, this is one that should be in your collection so I thought I'd let you know about it.

Update: I noticed a small mistake in one of the stories, where, in a flashback to Janus's days in an orphanage, the other boys refer to him as 'Janus'.  As most fans will know, Janus Stark is a stage name, adopted by Jonas Clarke at the start of his career.

Good question, McS. I don't think they've done that one yet, but I'm not 100% sure. It's certain to come though. Kelly's Eye is advertised at the back of the Janus Stark book and reprints the first instalment.

Janus Stark was a favourite strip from my childhood.Loved everything about it;the hero, the setting of Victorian London with the contrast of poverty and privlege, the artwork which I still think is amazing;you can smell the dampness of the Thames(which might cause water damage to your copy!] and the whole package reeks of soot and smog which evokes the old Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes movies.Yes,you've guessed it I liked Janus Stark.I read Jet,Valiant,Thunder etc and devoured anything readable...there was only 3 channels and video was still years away. Finally to the point of my story. Our next door neighbour worked in Menzies/Easons in Belfast at the warehouse. He very kindly brought home to my family FREE comics on EVERY weekday except Friday.Beanoes,Dandys,Beezer and Topper,Jet Victor,Thunder,Lion,Tiger and on and on.He also left in girls comics for my sisters Mandy ,Bunty etc which,if you promise not to tell anyone else,I also read.Plus Shoot which I loved with all the football news. But wait, there is more.Every Christmas we recieved annuals as well. This incredible act of kindness continued from(wait for it]from 1967-1982(I think)an incredible 15 years or so!!!!I have to mention Mr.Donnellys name as he truly was a kind and generous man.His memory lives on and rightly so.Hope yoou are well Kid and keep up the great.Did I mention I liked Janus Stark?

Here's to Mr. Donnelly, Triple F - every comics fan should have a neighbour like him. Here's a story for you: When I bought the first ish of the revamped Smash!, I only had it for about 3 or 4 days before selling it (at cost price and with free decoders) to a classmate (Billy Montgomery) who had intended to buy it but missed it. I figured I'd get another copy before the next issue came out on Saturday - no joy. However, I had devoured the comic so intently that when I managed to get a replacement around 15 and a half years later, I could remember having had my original as if it had only been a few days before, due to the fact that so many of the images still lived on in my brain.

So tell me - do you like Janus Stark?
