THE TWO JIMS - REEVES & DEAN...

As I type this, I haven't even watched the above clip - it's JIM REEVES on the JIMMY DEAN show.  Jimmy Dean played WILLARD WHYTE in the JAMES BOND movie DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.  He's probably best known for that, as well as the song BIG BAD JOHN.  Jim Reeves, of course, is best known as the finest balladeer of the 20th century.  (Well, he is in my house.)  Okay, let's watch the clip together.

******

Having now watched it and refreshed my memory, I've shown the first part of this (Jim singing WELCOME TO MY WORLD) on the blog before, but not the complete clip.  Still, what a voice though, eh?

Jimmy Dean was very popular in the US in the 1960s. He hosted a TV variety show, and the comedy sketches included appearances by the Muppets. That was Jim Henson's first big break in show business.

Dean's most famous song was "Big Bad John," but he had several other Country/Western and rockabilly hits, including "The Ballad of PT 109," a tribute to President Kennedy.

He also played Fess Parker's sidekick in the Daniel Boone TV series in the late 1960s.

I've got an LP of his that I got back in the early '80s from a pal, TC. It's not too bad at all. Can't remember if I ever saw the Daniel Boone TV show, but I remember the Davy Crockett show.
