KIT CARTER'S CLARKS COMMANDOS - PART ONE...

Copyright relevant owner

Back in the '60s and '70s, certain British comics carried adverts for CLARKS shoes, in the form of a comic strip called KIT CARTER'S CLARKS COMMANDOS.  The artwork is by TOM KERR.  More Clarks Commandos coming soon - don't miss 'em!

Remember these! Don't remember my Clarks too well. All I remember is leather shoes aren't waterproof... And rugby boots should be cleaned before you bring them home. And shoe laces rot. Oh the joy.

I used to think these strips were actually part of the comic for a while (ie not adverts) - Tom Kerr was a great artist, one of my all time favourites hiswork always made me smile when I saw it (Odd Ball Oates breing a favourite of mine frm Lion). It's always a treat when I track down an old comic with his art in it. I had these shoes as well as a kid (about 9 years old) - I though the compass in the heel was so cool (actually I still do, I wish they did them in adult sizes!). Look forward to seeign more of TomS work on this strip.

I loved these shoes as well, Phil & McScotty, but I loved the astronaut ones - with the magnet in the heel - even more. The magnet moved a space capsule against a backdrop of outer space printed inside the shoebox. I also thought the strips were part of the comic - I'm not quite sure when I twigged to the fact they were adverts - even 'though they were clearly marked as such. I guess kids don't bother with the 'small print', eh?

Loved these shoes too. Think they were called Pathfinders and they had animal prints embossed on the soles. Did anyone actually make use of the heel compass?

I was always taking the compass out of the heel, Moony, but wouldn't have known how to use it. I'd get lost in a jumper.
