All frenetic fans of The MIGHTY THOR will surely be interested in the latest OMNIBUS edition (Vol 2) of the hammer-throwing Asgardian's awesome adventures, collecting JOURNEY Into MYSTERY #121-125, THOR #126-152 & ANNUAL #2. (I'm glad to see that the over-thick 'restored' panel border lines on a couple of TALES Of ASGARD stories which marred earlier re-presentations have now been fixed.)
The book is well-worth having just to see the large-sized pages of JACK KIRBY's & VINCE COLLETTA's art at its finest - with perfect colour registration, a plethora of back-of-the-book bonuses - and the letters pages from each issue thrown in for good measure.

I find it too depressing to buy. Vinnie Coletta's inking is an abomination on those stories. All the lines the same thickness, backgrounds erased, he diluted Kirby at his finest hour.
I take the opposite view. Vince's inking on Thor made the musculature on Thor and other characters more realistic - as opposed to the cartoony look that Bill Everett gave the strip. Under Colletta, the art had an illustrative quality to it that was well-suited to the subject. In my humble opinion of course.
I remember Fred Hembeck saying in an interview (IIRC, either in Amazing Heroes or Comics Journal) that he disliked Vince Colletta's inks on Thor. No accounting for personal taste. Of course, he also said he didn't like stories set in Asgard or outer space, and he preferred to have Thor on Earth catching bank robbers and gangsters. To me, that always seemed like sending SEAL Team 6 or the SAS to arrest a jaywalker.-TC
Got to be honest, TC - I also preferred Thor on Earth as opposed to the Asgardian adventures. I mean, of course, in the main, but not exclusively. The occasional Asgardian setting was fine, but sometimes I think they overdid it.
I only wish I lived in Glasgow and could take up the offer! These editions look like they'd be great to have on the shelf but are usually priced out of my range. Just the postage to ship one of these tomes halfway round the world would be a deal breaker in itself. Not impressed with the painted cover - didn't even see Odin there at first! One thing that I have noticed with the painted covers of the line art from the original comics, as done on the paperback editions of the Marvel Masterworks, is that they don't always lend them selves at all well to full rendering. I'll add my two cents on the topic of Vince Colletta's inking while I'm here - not a fan myself, I prefer Joe Sinnott's cleaner lines, which I have been enjoying on the issues in the Masterworks Fantastic Four vol 6, though I do also prefer the Earth based Thor stories over the Asgardian ones as you do. Can't all agree on everything can we?
Phil the painted cover is sharper and clearer in the flesh, so to speak. I didn't have a very good image to work with, whereas the Kirby image is scanned from my own copy of the book. As for 'Can't all agree on everything' - I find myself in complete agreement with you on that. Ooer.
