PART SIX OF NEAL ADAMS' BATMAN COVER GALLERY...

Pencils & inks by NEAL ADAMS.  Copyright DC COMICS

Time once again to visit our spectacular gallery of NEAL ADAMS' stunning cover art for various BATMAN and related titles, such as DETECTIVE COMICS, BRAVE & The BOLD and WORLD'S FINEST COMICS, etc.  I first read the contents of Batman #227 in the book, BATMAN From The '30s To The '70s, and managed to acquire the actual issue many years later.  A true classic, in a similar vein to The SECRET Of The WAITING GRAVES, and I wish that Batman comics were as entertaining now as they were way back then.

The cover of Detective Comics #405 is very similar to The DEMON #2, and one can't help but wonder if KIRBY swiped the layout as they seem far too 'samey' for it to be coincidence.  What's the old saying again?  "Good artists imitate, great artists steal."  (There are variations of the line, usually attributed to PABLO PICASSO.)  If you want to compare the covers, click here and you can make up your own minds.

Anyway, enthralled as I'm sure you all are by my erudite and entertaining exposition, it's really the pictures you tune in here for, so I won't hold you back from them any longer.  I'm as considerate as I am modest humble, shy and retiring, I'm sure you'll agree.  Enjoy - and don't forget to leave a comment of appreciation for Mr. Adams' art.  You wouldn't want him to feel ignored now, would you?!  That would never do.

ROLL UP, ROLL UP - FF FREEBIE...

You'll remember me wittering on about POWER RECORDS recently, and their Comicbook and record set of The FANTASTIC FOUR #126 ("The WAY It BEGAN!")  Well, rather than wear out the record by playing it, I transferred the audio on to my computer and thence to CD.  I even copied the record label to provide one for the disc, and I'm well-chuffed with it.

Now, here's the good news (maybe).  I did a few trial and error runs on getting the label just as I wanted it and therefore have excess copies of the disc - around ten or so.  If you'd like a free copy, just leave your name and address in the comments section - don't worry, I won't publish them - and I'll send you a copy at my own expense.  Also, your details won't be passed on to anyone and will be deleted from my files once I've addressed the jiffy bag.

The disc contains two versions of the record - the original one, plus one with the page bleeps edited out (no gaps) so that it sounds like a radio play.  If you've bought the mag, but have long-since lost the record, here's a chance to replace it with a brand-spanking new CD.  It's also been processed to reduce the record crackle, so it probably sounds better than you've ever heard it before.  So, it really is that simple - if you want a copy, just let me know.  Remember  though - it's first come, first served, so better be quick!

******

Only three takers so far.  There really is no catch.  To reiterate - your name and address won't be used for any other purpose, won't be shared or passed on to any other parties, and won't be stored by me for future use in relation to anything else.  I delete the info right after I address the envelope.  You have nothing to lose.

******

UPDATE:  Offer now closed, alas.  Maybe I'll repeat it someday.

The SUPER HEROES COVER & IMAGE GALLERY - PART ONE...

Images copyright DC COMICS

When The MIGHTY WORLD Of MARVEL came out towards the end of 1972, I considered it the natural successor to the POWER COMICS of the '60s, which included WHAM!, SMASH!, and FANTASTIC, amongst others.  Likewise, when The SUPER HEROES first appeared in 1980, to me, it was the successor to SUPER DC, published in '69/'70.  The editor of The Super Heroes was VANESSA MORGAN, who sadly passed away from cancer just recently.  Although I never met nor spoke with her - or, indeed, can't recall ever seeing her name attached to any other mags - I thought I'd run a cover gallery in tribute to her, seeing as she was responsible for one of the fondly remembered periodicals of my long-vanished and sadly-missed youth.

Some startling cover art awaits you, but as you study it, give a thought to Vanessa - after all, she was the person responsible for commissioning it.  And don't forget to rejoin us for part two.

MOEBIUS CATWOMAN KIT...

For all those who fancied JULIE NEWMAR as CATWOMAN in the 1966 BATMAN TV series (and what red-bloodied male didn't?), MOEBIUS MODELS are planning on releasing this plastic model kit of the divine Miss Newmar, along with various other characters from the show (sold separately).  Personally speaking, I'm torn between Julie and the equally delectable LEE MERIWETHER in the role, but this sure looks like a kit worth having.  Incidentally, this is just one model - extra parts are supplied to give you a choice of versions.

And below is the artwork which will be used for the box.

ROOM FULL OF ROSES - JIM REEVES...

Here's the magnificent Mr. VELVET, JIM REEVES, singing ROOM FULL OF ROSES.  The ultimate in easy-listening awaits you, so what's holding you back?  Simply click and enjoy!

NEAL ADAMS' BATMAN COVER GALLERY - PART FIVE...

Oh, look what I have here to lure you into my lair, my pretties.  (Cripes!  I even scared myself then!  Don't worry though - no puppies' tails on offer.)  It's only another bombastic batch of BATMAN covers (and associated titles) by Nifty NEAL ADAMS to tease and tempt you, and which demonstrate what a superb practitioner of his art he is.  But you knew that anyway, right?

With covers of this quality it's hard to play favourites, but I must admit to being partial to the ones featuring the MAN-BAT, in particular DETECTIVE COMICS #402.  Do you have a favourite from amongst them?  Go on - tell us all which one(s) it is - and why.

PART TWO Of The THING COVER & SPLASH PAGE GALLERY...

Images copyright MARVEL COMICS

While a certain someone who looks like he's never fed anyone in his life but himself witters on about feeding a 'troll' (don't worry - that's what they call an 'in'-joke'), let's you and me take a look at another instalment of The THING cover and splash page gallery.  I've been thumbing through the issues before scanning, and I must say I'm quite impressed by the overall quality of RON WILSON's art in this series - it's certainly better than I remember it (and I liked it at the time).

I've re-read the first couple of issues so far, and plan on working my way through the rest of them when I can.  After all, what's the point in keeping comics for over 30 years and not revisiting them every now and again?  Interestingly, as celebrated as JOHN BYRNE was at the time, his Thing series didn't appear to be as popular as the title which had preceded it - MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE, which lasted 100 issues, compared to the Thing's 36 issue solo mag.

If you have any theories as to why, feel free to share them.  In the meantime, enjoy these images from so very long ago.
