MARVEL COMICS #1000 & 1001... (Updated)

Copyright MARVEL COMICS

Back in 2019, to celebrate 80 years of Marvel/Timely/Atlas, Marvel published the two comics you see before you.  I got the second one only last week from a comics shop in my town centre and ordered its predecessor from eBay a few days later to complete the set of two.  However, my failing memory is nagging me that I may already have 1000*, but none of the contents seem familiar to me.  Do you know what's even more irritating than not being able to remember something?  It's being not quite sure as to whether you remember something or not!

Anyway, some nice cover art for you to peruse, and I've even included the back covers to show you, in the case of 1000, who the contributors are to the issue.  Looking at the absence of contributors' names on the back of 1001 leads me to wonder if it was an oversight or a deliberate omission - what do you think, Crivvies?  And which of the two front covers do you prefer?  Declare your cover preferences in our easy-to-access comments section, if you'd be so good.

*Update: I do already have it - got it back in 2019.  (Just spotted it on the blog.)

You know, I can't remember if I bought this at the time either. I remember thinking I might get it, but I have no recollection of doing nor of reading it. Probably didn't. Hmm. Oh I prefer the first cover by far.

Yeah, the first cover steals it for me too, RJ. I know I didn't previously own 1001, but 1000 is a puzzler for me. Did I or didn't I? And if I did, I should still have it.

Kid, you might be thinking of Amazing Fantasy #1000 which you featured on Crivens about a year ago.

I think you think that I might be thinking of Marvel Age #1000, which I showed on December last year, CJ, but I wasn't. I knew it wasn't that one, or Amazing Fantasy #1000.

Kid, did you know that today is 50 years since ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest? If you're interested there's a documentary on Radio 4 tonight at 8pm called ABBA: Inside The Music and BBC2 has an ABBA night.

I was looking at the latest comics releases from Marvel and the cover of The Immortal Thor shows the Enchantress ripping up a copy of Journey Into Mystery #83.

I did know that, CJ, but only because there was something in the daily paper about it yesterday or the day before. I'll be in a care home tonight at that time so won't be able to see or watch the Abba programmes.

I'll have to look out for that Thor comic, 'cos I'd like to see that cover. Might even buy it.

Kid, I was snoozing at 8pm so I missed the Radio 4 documentary too but I'll listen to it on the BBC Sounds app.

If you google The Immortal Thor and click on google images then scroll down you can find that cover.

I was back home in time to see ABBA at the BBC - quite enjoyed it. I'm off to look at that cover.

Saw it. It's not an actual reproduction of JIM #83's cover, but a slight re-imagining of it. Still good though.
