Anyway, paid the £7 and collected the parcel, which had no postage label on it, meaning it had either been removed or never put on to begin with. I asked the seller to send me a copy of the receipt, which he did, and claimed the money back from RM as I could supply the PO reference number. Well, that's not quite true as regards the dosh - they're sending me a book of stamps worth £13.60 as reimbursement, which I don't mind as Christmas is approaching and it covers the stamps for any cards I send.
The item in question? Savage Sword Of Conan Reforged #1, which contains coloured strips originally published in b&w, and the colouring is more 'natural' and not quite so garish as some of the Dark Horse reprints of Marvel material were. However, at the risk of accusations of being pernickety, there's something that slightly irks me about the mag - a minor thing, but irksome nonetheless. The page number boxes have been cut (which is okay when it's done skilfully), but some have been overlooked.
Whatever happened to consistency? Three instances in "The Frost Giant's Daughter" (one number 'box' left in but without the number, two blacked out), and the number 7 box overlooked in "The Tower Of The Elephant". I hate this sort of carelessness and there's no excuse for it. I hope Titan get their act together and either leave the boxes in or delete all of them less clumsily. However, that apart, it's well-coloured and Conan fans will be sure to love it, whether they already own the b&w originals or not.
Any of you Crivs buy this mag, and if so, what did you think of it?

As you know I bought it and loved it. I never noticed the box numbers but those things don't bother me that much .
Just like spelling, punctuation, and grammar, McS, eh? (Har-har, couldn't resist. I'm so bad.)
Kid, I hope your forthcoming book of stamps will contain this year's Christmas stamps!
I first read The Tower Of The Elephant in Savage Sword of Conan monthly (UK) #11 dated September 1978 - the painted cover featured the obligatory cowering half-naked female even though no women appear in the story.
Is that the same Frost Giant's Daughter that was printed in an early issue of Conan The Barbarian? Wasn't the splash page different in the CTB version?
I bought 1st and 2nd Class Christmas stamps not long after you reminded me of them being issued, CJ, so I don't mind if the ones sent to me are Christmas ones or not.
There's a double page splash-spread after the splash page shown here, so maybe that's the one you're thinking of. (You can see it on McS's blog.) Personally, I can't remember which was used where.
Yes, the splash-page shown on Paul's blog is the one I meant.
I too have bought this year's 1st and 2nd class Christmas stamps. Rather dull designs.
But is it a splash 'page' or splash 'pages', CJ? Remember, it's a double-page spread.
I think the stamps are quite nice - they remind me of '60s Christmas stamps, which is okay with me.
Kid, did you know the first Christmas stamps were issued in 1966 - the year I was born.
And the first Christmas address to the Empire by the King occurred in 1932, the year my mother was born but I think the King spoke on Christmas EVE for that year only.
I did, CJ, and remember them being 'unveiled' at the time. In fact, I've actually GOT them 'cos I bought replacements a good number of years back. I'm still waiting to be asked to address the nation with a Christmas speech - it's sure to happen one day.
I'm giving the one a miss, Kid, as I'm quite satisfied with the Dark Horse set of reprints. The Roy Thomas editorial content on the background to the production of each issue, and the to-and-fro with Barry Windsor-Smith is fascinating stuff. That said, I do like the restrained colouring on the splash page you included, which is fractionally more pleasing to me than the slightly brighter reproduction in the Dark House "Chronicles of Conan" book #2.
Looks like you have the opportunity for a side gig at Titan, copy editing their content before publication.
I don't trust the Post Office or the Royal Mail. The Post Office are franchises therefore have to make a profit. I have found several times in the past that they have tried to overcharge me for postage. One of the best things I ever bought is a plastic template from eBay which has all the bureaucratic slots and measurements for letters and large letters. I always calculate the postage before I go to the PO so I'm not ripped off. I don't think they intentionally try to overcharge, I think they just don't know their own job. As for the Royal Mail they are just useless and con artists. All the pillar boxes have a 9am collection so if you don't post something by 9am - they have another 24 hours to process it. And they still can't hit targets!
I doubt Titan would ever employ me as I exposed someone who works for them as a lying b*st*rd a few years back and I wouldn't want to work with the scumbag. Apart from that, B, I'm retired and don't need any more money (though it's always nice to get some, I suppose).
It's happened to me before, though it was for only a couple of quid or so. Still, I'll be keeping my eye on them from now on. And I'm still waiting for the stamps they said they'd send me to arrive. Another of their con tactics is to measure an envelope sideways against the template and then say it's too big - even though it would fit through otherwise. Who the hell delivers an A4 envelope through a letterbox sideways? The top narrow end should be put through, not the wide side end, the thieving b*st*rds.
