Here's a 'little' beauty that's just been delivered into my eager mitts - The Untold Legend Of The Batman. I have the original 3-issue series from 1980 (which is how long I've owned it), a standard-size paperback book containing all three stories, and an audio dramatization with reprints of the original comics, but with cardboard covers. And now I've got a 'treasury size' limited edition for good measure.
What's interesting about it is that it doesn't appear to be a facsimile of a previously published Special, it's more of a 'what if' presentation - y'know, like a 'Lost Annual'. Some ads from the period are included, but they're likely taken from other '80s mags and included here to give it a touch of authenticity. Anyway, allow me to show you some pictures from it... and once you've savoured them, feel free to comment.

I wish I could draw like John Byrne. Or Brian Bolland. Or Ian Kennedy. Well, I wish I could draw. I wouldn't mind being a cartoonist actually. But I can't draw, so a slight disadvantage. Stunning artwork above, by the way.
I taught them everything they know about art. I should've been on a commission.
I just Googled John Byrne and he was born in Walsall which is my town of birth. I think I'd read that before but forgotten. Noddy Holder is also from Walsall and that about wraps it up for famous people who come from Walsall. Apart from Jeffrey Holland. Hi-De-Hi!

It's funny but I see Aparo immediately, Byrne not so much. Nice collaboration though.
Aparo has obviously given it his 'look' seeing as he inked it, but there are some panels in pages I haven't shown where Byrne is more obvious, RH.
I only have the first issue of this series were the other 2 comics as nice as this one?
Story-wise, yes, McS, art-wise, probably better.
Bouight these issues at the time and thought it was strange that Byrne was suddenly working for DC.Seemed like a one-off scenario and he never returned to DC until 1987(I think).However, forgot just how nice the artwork was, beautiful.
I always wondered about Byrne's work here, Triple F. Was he invited to step in to avoid the dreaded deadline doom due to Aparo perhaps being occupied elsewhere, only having time to ink it, not pencil it, or was there some other reason? I guess we'll never know.
