ANOTHER TV ACTION 12-ISSUE (Plus 2) COVER GALLERY...

Copyright relevant owner

In the previous TV Action cover gallery, I showed you issues 59-70, which represented all the ones published when I lived in my previous house.  Numbers 71-82 came out after we'd moved elsewhere, so I thought, just for balance, I'd show you them as well.  I'm unsure as to just how long I continued to buy the comic after 82, though I likely bought at least an occasional issue until it's subsummation into TV Comic, TVA's final issue being 132.

It was a fairly good comic, all things considered, and though I mainly associate it with my previous home, there are elements of the title (such as the announcement of the create a villain for Dr Who competition winner and the baddie's subsequent appearance in the strip) that remain firmly part of early memories of my current residence, first moved into in 1972.

Anyway, that's enough tedious waffle from me - enjoy the colourful images below and revive some of your own reminiscences of this relatively short-lived weekly periodical from the faraway '70s.

And while we're here, I may as well show you the last issue which carried the regular red-backed masthead, as well as the following issue which sported a slightly newer one incorporated (sort of) within the artwork.  This new masthead lasted until the final issue (132), and then it was all over for TV Action, aside from having second-billing as part of TV Comic for a while.  Feel free to share any memories or observations you have of this weekly title in the comments section.

Lovely covers.I never bought TV Action or any TV themed comics at this time ( the odd Look-In issue being my lot for these comics) but my pal Alan bought this and when I see these I remember visiting his home and seeing piles of comics ( his dad bought him loads of comics) with TV Action on top.

Do you still see Alan from time-to-time, McS, or is he simply a ghost from the past these days? Still, nice to know this post prompted you to think of him again and also that long-ago period from your youth. I've actually got a full set of TV Action on disc, but I prefer the real thing, so I've been buying some back issues of the title recently as nothing beats a paper periodical in one's hands.

I haven't seen him since I was around 12 or 13 Kid.

I wonder if he ever thinks of his old pal (that's you) from so very long ago.

Ah, seeing these takes me back. I recall arriving home from school at
the end of the week back in the 70s to see the new issue on the table,
picked up by my Mum; so another reason to look forward to the weekend!
Jon Pertwee's Doctor was the one that I have the fondest memories of and
I always liked the Anderson series so seeing them all in one publication
was a treat. Just wish that I'd hung onto my collection, which left my
possession over time though I can't recall just when they were
relinquished or why. Come to think of it neither can I recall who payed
for them - did I have pocket money or were my parents that generous?
Both parents long gone now so I'll never know.

(In case anyone's wondering why the above comment first appeared with my name, I had to cut & paste PC's comment from an email as he gets an error message when he tries to submit a comment to the blog. I forgot to type his name in when I first published it.)

Good to know that seeing these covers brings back happy memories, PC. I, too, was a schoolboy when these issues first came out and I remember sitting in class and drawing Jon Pertwee as the Doc, based on Gerry Haylock's paintings. Happy days.
