MORE CASTEL CRIVENS ACQUISITIONS...

Copyright DC COMICS

Once you start collecting something, it's difficult to stop.  On this occasion it started with my replacement copy of Action Comics #367, then I realised I needed #366 for the beginning of the three part Supergirl back-up story.  (Luckily, I already had the third and final part in #368, acquired decades ago.)

However, I then soon discovered I needed issues 362363364, and 365 to complete the main Superman tale which ended in #366.  Curiously, there's no indication 362's tale will detour into a theme introduced in 363 and continue and conclude in 366, giving the impression the writer is making things up as he goes along.

But hey, I got there in the end (thanks to eBay) and can now present some covers and images for you to drool over and make you wish you were me.  (H'm, maybe overstating the case there.)  Anyway, enjoy the journey ahead, and feel free to leave a comment or three.  And remember - click to enlarge, then click again for optimum size.

Sometime in the next few days is the 60th anniversary of my conception because my 60th birthday is on Feb 17th next year so I'm counting back nine months (my mother said I was a little late being born so maybe I was conceived on May 15th or 16th 1965). Anyway lots of people think life begins at conception so I've now existed for 60 years in this vale of tears.

Congratulations on acquiring those comics by the way!

I heard it was a grudge pregnancy, CJ - somebody had it in for your dad.

(Relax, only joking, but that's too funny not to use when an opportunity presents itself.)

Kid, my parents got married on January 1st 1954 so they'd gone for over 12 years without any children by the time I was born in 1966. My mother told me that HER mother was astonished when she heard about the pregnancy! My mother owned a pet cat at the time and a neighbour asked my mother if she'd be getting rid of the cat but that didn't happen and the cat lived until I was about 10 (I can't tell you his name because he didn't have one but he was a Manx cat which meant he didn't have a tail).

What age was your mum when she had you, CJ? 30s? 40s? I'm glad to hear she kept the cat, it would've been cruel to get rid of it. Incidentally, I was a late baby, 'cos I was expected on October 31st - Hallowe'en. That would've been quite appropriate, don't you think?

Over a week late is VERY late, Kid, but at least you get to share a birthday with William The Conqueror (possibly).

My mother was 33 and 7 months when I was born by the way (my father was 38 and 4 months).

I think my dad was around 39 or 40 when I was born, and my mum around 35 or 36. I guess I was a surprise.

Those covers are excellent especially issue 364 I don't recall seeing that one before.

I was a surprise baby as well as my mum wasn't expected to have a second child ( my mum lost a baby a few years prior). My dad was 42 my mum 32 when I was born.

I bought another two issues today, McS, and I don't think I'd ever seen them before. I'll put them on the blog when they arrive. 30s and 40s are respectable ages to become parents I'd say; nowadays, it seems that parents are hardly out of school themselves before they start breeding. Hope you won't mind me asking, but do you ever think about the brother or sister you might have had and what he or she would've been like if they'd survived?

I did when I was first told about the loss in my late teens Kid. I doubt i would have been born if my mum had gone to term as they planned to have 2 children ( my brother was already born at this time). The baby was "lost" very early on in my mums pregnancy Kid I can't recall how early , but around 3 months. Regardless it must have been traumatic for my parents . I think in the early 1960s ( well 1960) 42 was considered to be bordering on being old for a father although my dad always looked young. Bowadays at 42 they're grandparents lol

Maybe even great grandparents nowadays at that age, McS. You can never quite tell, you may have been a surprise baby even if your parents' 'lost' baby had been born. There's many a person alive who was never planned (I could well be one of them).

I remember reading about a woman who became a grandmother at the age of 29.

Kid, being born over a week late was actually very appropriate for YOU because even back then you didn't want to let go of the past and preferred to stay where you'd been happy!

Kid said...

But how do you know I was happy, CJ? Maybe the womb is a prison from which we yearn to be freed?

Hope you are keeping g well Kid.Great posts as usual.Amazing that you have uncovered 2 interior DC adverts that I had never seen before........and I have read 99% of Marvel DC etc from birth of FF in 1961 to early 90s!The Neal Adams Deadman page and the amazing Batman advert praising Frank Robbins and the very under-rated Irv Novick.Made my day! Thanks again.

My pleasure, Triple F, glad to have been of service. Come to think of it, I don't think I'd ever seen these two in-house ads before either.

McSCOTTY said...

Old age and brain fog comes to us all lol you saw those house ads last year on my blog and commented Kid.

Kid said...

Did I specifically comment on the ads though, McS, or just the post in general? Which one was it again?

Kid said...

Took a look, McS, and you only featured the Deadman ad that I've now posted, among the others you showed, not the Frank Robbins one. And when I said it was nice to see those ads again, I meant only the ones I remembered seeing previously, not the few I hadn't seen.

Kid said...

And yes, McS, I know you posted the Flash ad as well, but I meant that out of the Robbins and Deadman ads, you only posted the Deadman one.
