If you're a doddery old fart fogey like me, you'll recall when the golden DALEK EMPEROR was challenged by ZEG, the red Dalek, to a duel for supremacy, as recounted in the pages of TV CENTURY 21. Although red is my favourite colour, I cheered on the Emperor and was glad when he won. Well, now you lucky peeps are in for a rare treat, for here's a four-page tale about the very chappie, from the pages of The DALEK OUTER SPACE Book. Enjoy!
Great stuff...must say these strips were a bit too heavy for me to understand back in the day but they sure are fun to read now! Illustrations are superb, too notch. Thanks for showing this!

I had recently been searching ( unsuccessfully ) for an image of that Emperor Anatomy after that Dalek Forum admin wiped out everything from his forum, after a member had painstakingly been building up a thread of Dalek Autopsies. Needless to say, he wasn't best pleased that all of his ( extremely interesting and informative ) threads had been deleted!
ReplyDeleteSadly, there's a bit of shadow on the spine-side of the first page, JP, but I couldn't force the book flat without the risk of damaging it. However, better than nothing, eh?

Heck, some of mine only open to about 45°! I won't force them any further!

Yeah Kid; thanks for posting. To Paraphrase, I love the sight of some classic Dalek action in the morning. Is this the same artist responsible for those Walls Dalek cards?
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the price of The Dalek Chronicles collection online lately?!, I do a search from time to time but I have now given up any hope of ever owning a copy!
I thought you'd managed to get a Dalek Chronicles, PC, but I must've been mixing you up with JP. I wouldn't lose hope. I see things all the time on eBay going for ludicrously-high prices, but often there are more reasonably-priced examples on sale at the same time - or not too long after. If I see something I want and it costs too much, I just wait 'til a lower-priced one comes along, as they eventually and inevitably do. Hang in there. As for the artist, Richard Jennings certainly illustrated some of the strips in the book, and I believe this one is by him.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it WAS me. I paid £45 quid for it, though. Don't know what they're going for now through, will have to take a look. I balance this cost out with some of the bargains I have found online, like 2 Daleks books @ 1p each ( plus P&P ).

I think I sometimes got the two of you mixed up because you're both big Dalek fans, JP. £45 wasn't too bad for your Dalek chronicles by the way, because, if I recall correctly, it was going for upwards of £70 at the same time from other sellers. Have you got all three of the Dalek Books, or just the first one? You may have said before, but I'm getting old and tend to forget some things.

DeleteI "snatched" that £45 Chronicles up, before someone beat me to the punch! ( It was your good self who tipped me off, when you saw it! Remember, I said, "Not a word to 'er indoors!" )
Anyway, we all forget some things we saw/said, etc. on the blogs at our advanced years!
Thanks for the offer JP, but I do have a digital copy; just wouldn't mind an actual copy. I'm of the same mind-set as Kid in this regard. I often wonder how some of these insane asking prices are arrived at (just pick a number out of their a...) and also - do they actually manage to sell at that price?! I guess to some money is no object, say if Trump was a Dalek fan for instance. (Now there's your red Emperor Dalek!!)
ReplyDeleteI was in the same boat as you, - I only had them digitally for many years, but I always wanted to get the strips on paper again ( after once having owned all bar the first three TV 21's! )

I'm convinced that most of these high-priced items seldom sell, PC (at least not at the asking price), but a seller only has to sell one ludicrously expensive item for his long wait to offload it to be worthwhile.
Oh yeah, still got 'em, Kid, always will, but what I meant was for many years the original three were ALL that I had. I have only recently been able to track down the other 4 at a reasonable price. I kept missing out, when they went for silly prices!

The four '70s Annuals have shot up in price in the last couple of years, JP - to ridiculous extremes. I'm convinced it's because some sellers have read an article or seen an item an telly saying that the first three '60s Dalek Books are worth a pretty penny or two. Because of that, they've assumed that ALL Dalek Books must be worth loads of dosh and they've upped their prices accordingly.
ReplyDeleteThat's probably why they've upped the prices of the Chronicles then, even though it's really only a comic magazine special edition.
DeleteThat, and the fact that individual issues of TV21 featuring The Daleks sell at high prices, so some thicko sellers think that a reprint mag must be worth loads of dosh too.
ReplyDeletePC, I was getting the Wall's cards mixed up with the Cadet cards. It was Patrick Williams who drew the Wall's Dr. Who cards, and Richard Jennings who drew the Cadet Dalek cards, as well as being the first artist on the TV21 Dalek strips.
