Arrived yesterday, The Legend Testers from Smash! (60th Anniversary) - though for some odd reason, it doesn't contain the strips from the Annuals, which previous collected editions of various strips published by The Treasury Of British Comics have done. Where else would they print them? Bit of a mistake in my view, but maybe they'll eventually do a second edition and rectify the oversight.
Arrived today, two facsimile editions of Superman Vs Spider-Man (50th Anniversary), by DC and Marvel, each with a different cover for the indecisive among you - and square-bound, just like the '70s original. What can I say? Buy 'em both now! (And before you ask what happened to my recently declared intention to cut back on my buying, I pre-ordered them yonks ago before I arrived at that decision.)

I bet they'll use the annual stories in the treasury annuals instead but it would of been better to put them in the book with the other stories.
Indeed, it would've made more sense. Anon, can you pick a name for yourself to use regularly so I can separate one Anon from another?
I was never interested in any Marvel/DC crossovers as they seemed totally illogical. Marvel and DC characters lived in separate universes so how could they meet each other?
When there's money to be made from such crossovers, CJ, anything is possible. Besides, you've heard of the Multiverse, haven't you? This Supes and Spidey obviously live in a universe which is shared by DC and Marvel characters. Imagination is a wonderful thing. Or you can just pretend it's a 'What If?' story.
Kid, that's a good point about a universe shared by DC and Marvel characters!
I thought so too, CJ - that's why I made it. (Hee-hee!)
Have you got the second Superman/Spider-man? I've got 2 copies of it. My original and one I saw at a comic fair a few years ago. I couldn't resist it for one English pound.
Got the large US Treasury-sized edition, M, plus the smaller UK one. Also, earlier today, pre-ordered two facsimile versions, one with the original cover, the other by a different artist.
Kid, I don't know a lot about DC characters but I'm aware that Aquaman comes from Atlantis which means the shared Marvel/DC universe must have two Atlantises - one for Aquaman and one for Prince Namor.
Or there's one Atlantis that Namor and Aquaman share, CJ. Or any other variation you can think of.
Are you going to pick up the new Spidey v Superman team up books in March?
Not 100% sure yet, McS. Maybe.
I remember buying the first Super/Spidey when it came out, but not where. Did I buy it in my college town, or my home town three hours away? I recall I liked the odd way Andru drew, and liked Stan's script, and read it a couple of times, but I haven't revisited it since 1976! You've inspired me to hunt down my treasury edition and reread the book, but I won't be buying the new ones as my budget is not as generous as Castle Crivens allotment! On a different note, do you have a celebration for Burns' Night that you attend in Scotland? We just watched a fellow give a lecture on how much fun they have, celebrating the haggis and Robert Burns. We are vegetarians, but could probably come up with reasonable haggis substitute. And I love mashed tatties and neeps.
It wasn't Stan who scripted the story, LM, 'twas written by Gerry Conway. As for celebrating Burns' Night, nah, not my thing, especially as I'm a lifelong teetotaller. Regarding the Supes/Spidey artwork, Neal Adams did an uncredited redrawing of prominent Superman figures, cover included I believe. I was in bed with a cold (or something) on the night I received my copy of the book - a friend delivered it on his way home from work, having bought it in Glasgow. 50 years ago - who'da thunk it?
Lord M, you can buy vegetarian haggis and it's genuinely very tasty.
I'm sure he'll be searching one down even as I type, McS. (I won't be though.)
THANKS Mc Scotty! I will keep an eye out for that haggis! And Kid, my wife and I are not big drinkers, but I have to say the BEST whiskey I ever had was from a local distillery (Inverness, Dollar, Sterling, Edinburgh?) when we were in Scotland ages ago. It was a cream whiskey...I just wish I remember where we were! (and no, it was just a wee dram, as they say.).
And thanks for the correction as to who wrote what. Now I've just GOT to find my copy!
Never tasted whisky in my life, LM, though I have an unopened miniature bottle from an aeroplane that a woman I knew gave me as a gift - mainly 'cos she forgot to get me anything and it was all she could get her hands on. Still, it's the thought that counts, I suppose.
Kid, part of me commends your wisdom at rejecting alcohol but part of me pities you for never tasting Scotland's national drink! All spirits drinks taste rather horrible when drunk neat but they are much nicer when mixed with soft drinks to create rum & coke, whiskey & soda, gin & tonic etc - nowadays such cocktails can be purchased in cans at the supermarket.
When I look at what @rseholes people can become when they imbibe of alcohol, CJ, I can only pity THEM - I certainly don't feel that I've ever missed out on anything by never drinking alcohol, smoking, or taking drugs. Cola, cream soda, orangeade and pineappleade will do for me.
I remember when I saw an ad for this in a comic. That was the only advance notice I had and I remember going to the store several times before I saw it. I was so excited and I read it so many times, I still remember a lot of the story and artwork even though I probably haven’t laid eyes on it in over 40 years. It was an event, for sure, but it was an enjoyable story for this 12 year old.
I remember the story well, G, but I still read my new facsimile anyway and enjoyed it very much. (I've re-read the original publication a few times over the years.) It's got a very cinematic, James Bond type of feel to it and truly is a classic of its kind. Will you be buying the facsimile for old times' sake?
I might pick it up, for old times sake.
It would be a nice reminder of your youth, G (assuming that last comment is from you), and it's an impressive item just to look at.
You're not missing out by not boozing Kid. Beer is horrible. Wine leaves a dry taste. Sherry is too sweet. Spirits are a kick but no benefit.
And never once in my life have I ever thought I was missing out on anything as far as alcohol, smoking, and drugs go. I've never seen the attraction.
Yes, that was me. It would remind me of my youth, growing fainter in the rear view mirror everyday. 🙂
Same for all of us, unfortunately, G, but hold onto those memories for as long as you can.
I have The Legend Testers book on order. I have to agree with you about omitting the annual stories. I am hoping at some stage The Umbrella Men from 1966 Dandy will be published in book form. One can only hope.
It must be an oversight, LH, because all their other collected editions usually include Annuals and Summer Specials stories. Hopefully, DCT will reprint The Umbrella Men at some point in the not-too-distant future, eh? Something for you to look forward to.
