MAJOR MATT MASON'S MOON SUIT ARM PAK...

If you're a fan of Mattel's Major Matt Mason and own the classic '60s Moon Suit, its rubber arms may have perished - as they were prone to do after a few years.  I've already replaced the arms on my pair of Moon Suits with thicker rubber ones with wire inside that allows them to bend into different positions for display purposes.  I'm perfectly happy with them, but I thought I'd buy the above arms because they work in exactly the same way as the originals, via the 'bellows' pump that fits into the suit.

They're quite expensive, but a lot of work goes into them to get them just right (though they have an extra ridge in them to distinguish them from originals) and it saves having to buy another Moon Suit, which would be even more expensive.  So if you have a Moon Suit and want to restore it to its former glory, they can be obtained from joey-s on eBay.  Go on to eBay, click 'Advanced' and type his name into the 'Sellers' box.  Then message him for details.

This has been a Crivens Public Service Announcement.

I discovered this week that I'd been making a mistake about something from my own childhood. The actor Timothy West died and I remember him best from the TV series Edward The Seventh in 1976, or so I'd long believed - in fact that series was broadcast in 1975 not 76. I remember watching the first two episodes during the Easter holidays and according to Wikipedia the first episode was shown on April 1st 1975 so I did a bit of research and discovered that Easter Monday 1975 fell on March 31st which means I did indeed watch the first two episodes of Edward The Seventh during the Easter holidays but I'd been wrong about the year. For decades I'd assumed that I watched Edward The Seventh in 1976 when it was actually 1975.

So your sense of time had gone 'west', eh, CJ? (Chortle! See what I did there?) Never mind that, though. What's this I hear about you declaring on Jaggy @ss's blog that the concept of a country voting to regain its sovereignty and control of its borders, as well as the right to trade with whoever it likes is a 'sh*t' idea? You on the booze again?! (Oh, I am awful!)

Kid, I'm very surprised that you're still reading Rip's posts and their comments! Why??
As for Brexit, I accept that we had a referendum and we had to abide by the result but I also believe Brexit has been a failure and will make this country poorer. Did you know that immigration is now much higher than when we were EU members? So much for taking back control of our borders.

I didn't say I was still reading his posts, CJ, there you go making your assumptions again. I was checking to see if he'd decided to publish my reply (a restrained, model of politeness response) to his 'f*ck off' comment, but I'd forgotten which post it was on and had to check the comments section on a couple to try and find it. (He hasn't, as it would illustrate just how obtuse he was.)

As for whether Brexit will make this country poorer or not, that wasn't the main issue, it was to reclaim sovereignty from a bunch of unelected officials who were making decisions on our behalf. However, although it's too soon to say, you have to remember that the Pandemic made a huge hit on our economy (as well as others) so it hasn't really had the opportunity to show us what it can do.

And IF immigration is now much higher than when we were members, then surely that proves my point? If it's legal immigration then that shows that Starmer and his cronies aren't fulfilling the will of the people, and if it's illegal immigration, then that shows just how necessary Brexit was and is. It's past time politicians of both main parties did their best to give the people what they voted for, instead of cosying up to the EU again (with a view to rejoining in Labour's case). Yes, Brexit has been sabotaged - first by Covid, and then by disgruntled 'remainers' who are essentially trying to reverse the decision.

Incidentally, even if Brexit did mean the UK was going to be slightly poorer (at least to begin with), I think it's an acceptable 'trade-off' to regain our sovereignty. And what should be remembered is that I'm non-partisan and don't support any political party, so my view isn't coloured by political dogma like yours is. I bet you've been a Labour supporter all of your life as were probably your parents. You have a political agenda, whereas I have a more politics-free objective viewpoint.

Gosh, this is fun, isn't it?

Kid, it was the Tory government that started bringing in workers from Africa, India etc to replace the missing EU migrants not "Starmer and his cronies". Starmer has also bent over backwards to show he doesn't intend to rejoin the EU - he said the UK won't rejoin in his lifetime so what more do you want from him?

As for my political opinions - over the years I've voted Labour, Plaid Cymru and Green in different elections so I can hardly be considered a loyal Labour voter. My father was left-leaning but not that bothered about politics and my mother was totally non-political - her favourite newspaper was the Daily Mail but she had no interest in the political stuff. She admitted wanting Thatcher to win in 1979 because we'd have a woman PM and she also wanted George W Bush to win in 2000 because he was "nice-looking".

Kid said...

Wasn't it the Labour government who set the pattern for foreign immigration into this country, CJ, with the Windrush Generation? And 'replacing missing EU migrants' just means 'filling the vacancy', not necessarily increasing the number of people coming in legally. And I'd hardly say that Starmer has 'bent over backwards', he's simply said that we won't rejoin the EU, but didn't he and his cronies also make other election promises that they've since broken? What makes you think we can trust him?

As for your political opinions, you're really a 'socialist' (commie fink) at heart though, aren't you? Even if a fickle one. George Bush nice looking? What was your mum's guide dog's name?

Need to try harder, CJ - you're not convincing me. Now, tell me again (oh, that's right, you haven't yet) why the UK wanting to reclaim sovereignty is a sh*t idea? Can't, can you?

Kid, there are too many people in this country (you included I assume) who seem to believe that Britain is still an important global power when, in fact, we are a country in serious decline. How will "sovereignty" help us if Trump imposes tariffs on us? The EU will band together to fight back against Trump but the UK will be defenceless. And as for a "trade deal" with Trump's America - it'll be like a lamb trying to bargain with a wolf.

Obviously I'm not going to convince you so let's agree to amicably disagree.

In other matters - today (Nov 16th) is exactly 50 years since I bought POTA #5, my first ever Marvel comic.

Kid said...

Nope, there you go with the assumptions again - I don't believe that Britain is still an important global power, but it should be allowed to make its own decisions if that's what the people want and vote for. And are we really in serious decline? If so, unchecked immigration (legal and illegal) is part of the problem, but there was little we could do about it as members of the EU.

Anyway, you don't need to convince me, you've already convinced yourself so as long as you're happy with that, then that's all that matters. And I don't want to amicably disagree - I want a fight in the pub car park, you Welsh commie fink! (When did we ever NOT amicably disagree? We do it all the time. I'm the most amicable person in the world.)

Here's what will happen now: You'll go onto another blog, state your case there, and feel validated if no one disagrees with you. On Crivens, I don't like to make things easy for you (or anybody else), as this is the only intellectual exercise I get these days.

And congratulations on losing your Marvel virginity those 50 long years ago. Betcha it seems more recent than that.

Well, you don't need to worry about us rejoining the EU, Kid, as they don't WANT us back and are doing fine without us. In order to rejoin we'd need to re-apply from scratch and our application would probably be vetoed by France and several other EU countries anyway. Perhaps we'll just have to surrender ourselves to Trump's America and accept a deluge of cheap American food with all the accompanying poor US food standards. So much for sovereignty.

Kid said...

Ever the pessimist, eh, CJ? I don't worry much about anything, and had the UK voted to remain within the EU I'd have been fine about it. Whatever the result, I just think the will of the majority should prevail, right or wrong - that's democracy. As for sovereignty, we may cock it all up (oo-er, missus), but as long as it's our choice and not anyone else's, I'm fine with that. To surrender our sovereignty purely for economic benefits (if any) is akin to a tart selling her body for money. Principle should always come before cash.

Now repeat after me - "I, CJ, am a Welsh commie fink!" repeat 20 times.

Colin Jones said...

I was born in Islington though, Kid, so am I Welsh? Didn't come to Wales until I was two.

Kid said...

English born, Welsh bred, so I'll let you take your pick as to what kind of commie fink you are, CJ. Can't say fairer than that.

Ah...I expected a Major Matt Mason commentary but seem to have waded into a Brexit debate. I'll let you lads debate the pros and cons of 2016 and just say that my enthusiam for Matt would have been far less without all those great Matt Mason ads in DC comics in the late 1960s. Remember that fantastic Space Station 2-storey structure that was advertised? It was probably so expensive that none of our parents could have afforded it, even if it was imported to the UK (which I don't think it was). I was lucky enough to get the Space Crawler, though. Must have been Xmas 1969 (or '68??).

Kid said...

Aw, we're just having a bit of banter, B, it livens up the day. Yeah, the Space Station WAS imported here as it was advertised in UK comics at the time. Type in Major Matt Mason to the Blog's search box and scroll down the results until you see the ad - from Smash! I think.

Kid said...

In fact, you actually commented on that post, B. Your memory going as well?

baggsey said...

I'm sure this is not the only instance of repeating myself more and more these days, Kid, as I coast into senility... :-)

Kid said...

I'm charging into senility, B, not coasting. The times I'm surprised to see a comment of mine somewhere that I've no memory of making. Even on my own blog.
