TWO NEW 'TREASURES' FROM REBELLION...

Copyright REBELLION

Arrived at Castel Crivens today (though I'm using images from the publisher's website) are two new items that all fans of British comics will surely be interested in.  First, #1 of a 3-issue series of Smash! comic and, second, the Treasury Of British Comics Annual for 2024.  Rather than bore you with my tedious waffle, you can work out the contents by the cover illustrations.  So I've got mine!  Will you be getting yours?

  1. Thanks for this I wasn't aware of the annual . I will certainly have a look at it to see what's being reprinted , hopefully a few strips from the mid 1960s to early 1970s One of the images looks like it's fron "Moon Madness" so that may sway me into picking this up. I will probably pick up the first issue of Smash as well.

  2. Kid, a facsimile edition of Uncanny X-Men #141 ("Days Of Future Past") is published this week.

  3. Moon Madness scanned from the original art in the archives, McS. There's a mix of new and old material, including strips by Ken Reid and Leo Baxendale. Nice to have, I'd say. Haven't read any of them yet, just about to jump into my scratcher and have a wee look at them.

  4. Yup, I'll probably be buying it pretty soon, CJ. Just bought 3 other facsimiles a day or two ago. I prefer to get a few at a time rather than one lone issue so that I qualify for combined postage.

  5. What facsimiles did you buy, Kid? We Crivens readers need to know such things!

  6. They're pre-orders - Giant-Size Super-Stars Featuring The Fantastic Four #1, The Doom Patrol #99, and Daredevil #183. I've already got an original issue of Giant-Size Super-Stars, but these facsimiles are great when it comes to crystal clear reproduction and colour registration.

  7. I'd love the Annual but I think I'll have to wait and see if it's in the sale. One of my happiest memories is going into town after Christmas armed with Christmas money and gift vouchers and buying annuals in the sales. Half the fun was looking and seeking out that special annual that you didn't get for a present. The thrill of finding it at a reduced price! Happy days. It's just not the same online, it takes the fun out of it. 😊

  8. Very true, M, Annuals used to have magic to them that today's tiny crop just can't match. And though I like the Treasury Annual, I think it would've been better priced under £15, rather than £25, which is quite expensive. However, it's probably a very limited print run, hence the price it is. (And at least it does have new strips.) I still like buying old Annuals even now.

  9. Kid, I assume you aren't interested in Doctor Who's 60th anniversary? Did you know that David Tennant is back as The Doctor (and Catherine Tate too) for three 60th anniversary special episodes beginning next Saturday?

  10. Yeah, I knew about them, CJ, and will probably watch them as David Tennant was quite a good Doctor Who. Did YOU know that the Retro-Forteana blog has been resurrected and the link can be found in my sidebar?

  11. No, I didn't know that, Kid, but I knew Andrew was thinking about it. I must take a look.

  12. He's waiting to hear from you, CJ.

  13. I've just left a comment on Andrew's blog, Kid, but it needs to be approved. I've bookmarked the blog too.

  14. Many thanks to Kid for mentioning my resurrected blog, and to Colin for posting a comment on it. Incidentally, Kid, when I came to check that everything still works, I encountered the same problem as you in that several of the blogs in my sidebar haven't had new posts for years. I cleared a few out, but I noticed there's an option to sort the list by "Most recently updated", so that's what I've done. This way any blogs that don't get updated sink further and further to the bottom of the list, while the most active ones show up at the top. Sounds fair to me!

  15. After publishing the above two comments, I was suddenly overcome with tiredness and had to go and lie down. Well, fell asleep, didn't I! Anyway, awake now and rarin' to go.

AM has now answered your comment, CJ, as you'll know from the one above.

I might go for that, AM, though at the moment, mine are in alphabetical order. I keep a few discontinued blogs in my sidebar because they have some interesting older content in them.
