GEORGE PEREZ R.I.P.

Sad to hear that George Perez died from pancreatic cancer on Friday.  A great artist, who put everything plus the kitchen sink into his pages.  He was only 67 - far too young, far too young.  Rest in peace George.

  1. No one drew comics like he did. Some tried but no one ever was able to capture that magic, the utter craftsmanship he displayed. His famous crowd scenes are spectacles unmatched in comics.

  2. He put in so much detail that I sometimes found some of his pages very sore on my eyes, RJ, but there's no denying that he was a great comicbook artist. A sad loss to the world of comics.

  3. One of the true greats up there with Kirby , Woods, Adams, Buscema etc. While Neal Adams got me hooked on comics George Perez was one of the few artists working in the mid 1980s (when I was getting tired of them) that kept me interested ( though only on his work).

  4. It's depressing, as none of the surviving artists who readers of our age grew up on (even into adulthood) are getting any younger. (Who is?) I fear we're in for more sad news before very long, alas.

  5. I was thinking that myself Kid.I suppose it's just a fact of life but it's still sad .

  6. He was the first pro I ever met at a con in London in 1978. I still have the sketch he did for me of Iron Man.

  7. Sad indeed, McS. I dread to think who'll go next.

Hold onto it, PS. It'll be worth money I suppose, but even more important is the memories of that day that go with it.

  8. I got his first Avengers issue, and many more. Loved his art and the detail in it, and how all of his characters had different faces. I haven’t seen much of his later (post 83 work), but I didn’t see JLA/Avengers…..I made a point to see it since the first time didn’t work out when I was an active reader.

  9. Do you mean you DID see his JLA/Avengers, or made a point NOT to see it? You seem to be contradicting yourself in that sentence. Incidentally, pick a name for yourself, as I don't usually publish anonymous comments.

  10. Sorry, Kid. This is Graham. For some reason, I can’t log onto my account. I meant to say “did” instead of “didn’t” see JLA/Avengers. Your blog has been the only one I could log into for several years. I’m not sure what’s up with that.
