Y'know, for many years I assumed that TURVILLE'S TOUCHSTONE (later renamed The SPELLBINDER) was already a longstanding strip when I saw it in the first combined number of LION & THUNDER in 1971. Imagine my surprise then, when I recently acquired the first merged issue of LION & EAGLE and found it contained the debut story of TOM TURVILLE and the ancient alchemist SYLVESTER. That means the strip was less than two years old when I first saw it, but I had a notion it was far older than that. Okay, that might've been a later impression, but for many years, possibly after the fact, I had the idea that the strip had originated long before 1969. Just shows what I know, eh?
A cascading cornucopia of cool comics, crazy cartoons, & classic collectables - plus other completely captivating & occasionally controversial contents. With nostalgic notions, sentimental sighings, wistful wonderings, remorseful ruminations, melancholy musings, rueful reflections, poignant ponderings, & yearnings for yesteryear. (And a few profound perplexities, puzzling paradoxes, & a bevy of big, beautiful, bedazzling, buxom Babes to round it all off.)

IT'S THE TOM & SYLVESTER SHOW - AND I'M NOT TALKING PUSSY CATS, MELVIN...

Another great strip ,Lion was a great comic with a nice mix of strips I wonder when the title of the strip changed to Spellbinder?
ReplyDeleteBorrowing my neighbour's computer again to answer a few comments, McS, but I don't want to be a nuisance to him, so this'll be the last time 'til I get my Internet problems sorted out. Yeah, great comic. I think the strip changed its name when it became more humorous in nature, but I don't know exactly when that was.
ReplyDeleteThanks, H, I hope it stays there for a while until I'm back online. Thanks for your assistance.
ReplyDeleteHucky, I now have the four missing pages from the files you supplied, so thanks very much for all your time and trouble. Cheers.
