Here's yet another in the MARVEL facsimile editions series, Giant-Size X-MEN #1, and if you don't have the original, then this version will do as a nice stand-in until you win the Lottery or that rich uncle pops his clogs. Once again, the COMICS CODE box has been omitted, which irks me slightly, as I prefer facsimiles to look as much like the originals as possible, and the Code box is integral to the feel of the period the mag was first published.
Anyway, if you've been buying any of the mags in this series, this is one you might like to consider adding to your collection. Unlike the TRUE BELIEVERS version, it contains the back-up strips of the original, and is better than the MARVEL MILESTONES EDITION from the '90s. 'Nuff said.
I see this ish is already up on eBay for ridiculous prices. One seller is asking £15.99, another £19.99. Crikey, it only just came out a few days ago.

I do have Classic X-Men #1 that I bought in 1986 which has this story in it, but it has bits inserted into the story drawn by John Bolton, which are gorgeous but don't really gel with the Cockrum art at all, so this might be an essential purchase for me.
I've avoided these for one simple reason - are the creators getting a cut? Or is this just a way for the publishers to grab more profits by not having to pay for content created under work-for-hire contracts? You know - like the way Disney remakes animated movies and doesn't have to pay the for the music and songs. (Animated movies don't have the same protections as live action films, so they're screwing the original creators every way they can).

I'd nab one as soon as you can, DS, before comics shops sell out and opportunistic ebay sellers raise the price to ridiculous levels. Some of them have already started. I've got that Classic X-Men issue myself, but didn't they have another story at the back of the mag which expanded on the reprint, rather than add portions in-between?

Gotta be honest, 3, I don't really care whether the creators get a cut or not (nor do I mind if they DO). They knew what the deal was at the time and were happy to accept it, so they can't really complain now. Are you sure about Disney not paying for reuse of music and songs? I thought the copyright laws were revised some years back to cover things like that? Having said that though, the composers and lyricists accepted how things were done at the time, but again, if Disney DOES give them something, I don't object at all.

Classic X-Men had Bolton-drawn backups from #2 onwards, but in the first issue, they had several small sequences incorporated into the original story. CXM #1 actually starts with a couple of pages from Claremont and Bolton then goes into the reprint of the Wein/Cockrum story.
Ah, right. I've got at least the first dozen issues, but I've no idea where they are at the moment. Up in the loft, I suspect. Haven't looked at them in years and years.
