A cascading cornucopia of cool comics, crazy cartoons, & classic collectables - plus other completely captivating & occasionally controversial contents. With nostalgic notions, sentimental sighings, wistful wonderings, remorseful ruminations, melancholy musings, rueful reflections, poignant ponderings, & yearnings for yesteryear. (And a few profound perplexities, puzzling paradoxes, & a bevy of big, beautiful, bedazzling, buxom Babes to round it all off.)

Interesting topic Kid but I can't personally recall ever having a particular comic panel (or set of panels) that resulted in me having a wee "crush" (lets call it that shall we) on a female comic character (although Betty and Veronica and Gwen Stacy could have been up there lol). But in a more general way I do agree that certain panels (let alone comics) can evoke vivid memories of times past for me as well. One's that come to mind are the title panels for the "Dolls of St Dominic's" "Mervyn's Monsters" and a panel of "Grimly Fiendish" (where he is smiling and you see "eyes" in his mouth etc) them and a "Dare a Day Davy" panel where his alter ego (baddie guy) is hovering over his shoulder with spiky teeth and wearing a cape etc takes me right back to Primary school, I can almost taste that (if that makes sense).
ReplyDeleteThe Jim Reeves connection; I think he had a song called "Girls I have known"
Actually, he had an album (LP) called 'Girls I Have Known', where every song title was a woman's name (different woman each time obviously). Nowadays, it would be called a 'concept' album. See? Jim was ahead of his time. And feel free to treat yourself to that Mars Bar.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's amazing how a comic panel or page can take us right back to childhood, eh? I've just remembered that I wrote a similarly-themed post about 'good girl' art starting my 'motor' - I'll put that up next.
