Regular reader (and sometimes commenter) CJ asked me if all four of my walls are covered in posters or merely one. He'd obviously forgotten seeing these photos the first time they were posted, so going on the assumption that others of you will have done the same, I thought I'd show them again. True, I was taking photos of the toys rather than the posters, but you can still see them in most instances. Some of them duplicate others, but there are two (even three) sets of photos here, taken a few years apart, so there'll be slight differences between them. And remember - this is only one room. (I had to pack all the toys away a couple or so years ago, and haven't yet put them back out. Maybe one day.)

ReplyDeleteI've just bought a Coca-Cola Christmas mug from Tesco featuring the famous Coca-Cola Santa first made famous in 1930's adverts (that's where the modern image of Santa comes from). I rarely drink Coke but I'm going to buy some so I can drink it out of my new mug. Go and buy one to add to your collection, Kid (assuming your local Tesco sells them of course) !
I've got quite a few Coca Cola items, CJ, including a can from the time before they had ring-pulls. I've also got Danbury Mint ornaments based on those famous Santa Claus illustrations, and they're really nice. I'll keep an eye out for that mug.

ReplyDeleteThe grey/silver/red one is by Cecil Coleman, and is practically the same size as (and based on) the Budgie version, and the smaller one is by Johnny Lightning. The Fireball Xl5 is by Quercetti, and there's two of them if you look closely (8th pic down). One is the same colours as the one I had as a kid - silver back-half, light grey front-half with yellow nosecone, and one is all silver with an orange nosecone. Got a replica Budgie version, but still to build and paint it.

ReplyDeleteKid, I noticed that Tesco sells "Classic" Coca-Cola in glass bottles. Unfortunately they are sold in packs of 6 and I don't want 6 bottles of Coke so I didn't buy any. Only the neck of the bottles were peeking above the packaging so I couldn't see if they had the same design as the bottles I remember from the '70s. Perhaps at Christmas I'll buy a Classic Coke six-pack. But I got some Coke for my new Christmas Coke mug - a 500ml plastic bottle from Wilkinson's (the smallest bottle in Tesco was 1.25 litres which was too big for me).
ReplyDeleteContemporary Coca Cola bottles don't seem to say 'Coke' on them any more, CJ (unless it's in small print), and they now bear the name 'Coca Cola' on both sides (if a round bottle can be said to have sides, but you know what I mean). I've got original bottles from before the name was 'printed' on, being 'moulded' onto the glass. I've even got a bottle radio, which looks for all the world like a bottle of Coca Cola, but is a radio. Go on, splash out and buy those six bottles.

ReplyDeleteDon't think I could pick an outright favourite, W - they're like children to me, and just ask any parent to name their favourite child. Every one of those toys - particularly the ones I had in childhood (of which these are replacements) - represents a particular period in my life. I suppose they're ALL my favourites.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean Kid. I've forgotten so many things I reckon I had. I wish I could remember them. I'm left with memories of toys which I assume must have been my favourites 'cos I can recall them clearly! I wish my folks had been into Super 8 and done some filming round the house, especially Christmas 67,68 and 69!
ReplyDeleteI often find myself wishing that my parents had taken more photos inside the houses we lived in - the few pics they did take were always outside in the garden, no doubt because my father's Kodak Box Brownie had no flash. If there had been some indoors, I'd have been able to spot favourite toys and comics lying around in the background.

ReplyDeleteI've often wondered if other relatives and family friends have old snaps and even cine films of my childhood Kid. There's no way of knowing as many old family chums of my folks have sadly passed on but my siblings may have some. I intend to ask this Christmas when I see them. Could there be Kid material of you elsewhere?
ReplyDeleteYes, there's cine film footage of me around the age of 18 or 19, taken by the now deceased ex-wife (though she wasn't 'ex' at the time - nor deceased as it happens) of my former boss from an auto accessory shop. I'd left his employ a couple or so years before, but I later signwrote a van for him. I think the footage was of me next to the van, but I'm not 100% sure. I've never seen it, but I remember it being shot. Perhaps it doesn't exist anymore, and I'm not sure if my old boss is still alive after all this time, 'cos I'm going back 40 years or so. I'd love to see it if it still exists. There may even be photos taken by relatives that I've never seen (photos, not relatives).
ReplyDeleteIts interesting that you know you were filmed Kid. I suppose you saw it happen! I have no idea if I ever was. I know my Uncle showed us cine films like King Kong and the like in the Sixties so he could well have owned a cine camera and filmed the family. Truoble is I can just about remember last week never mind 1967!
