Great article, please continue.
ReplyDeleteAnyone second Baab's motion?
ReplyDeleteYes, I want to see the rest of them. I had a few, including the "Monstrous Illusion" one shown here, but most of them are new to me.
ReplyDeleteTa, TC. Two votes to continue so far - any more?
ReplyDeleteRemind me who was the artist? It wasn't Wood was it?
ReplyDeleteWhy is Batman half naked in the last couple of cards ?
ReplyDeleteNorman Saunders and Bob Powell were the artists, Phil. Norman painted over Bob's layouts, although I'm unsure if that was the case with every card.

He never had time to finish dressing before going out on patrol, CJ.
So if The Batman is half nudie, does that mean he had the ellipse tattooed on his chest and does the the bat gas mask mean he can earn a few coppers buskin if he needs change for the loo.
ReplyDeleteYup to both questions, DSE.
ReplyDeleteThis is another series I've been following, so you know where my vote lies!
ReplyDeleteIn fact, have you also got any of the subsequent serieses?
Only got the three series from the '60s, JP. If there were any others, don't have them.
ReplyDeleteI think there were five, I'll check and get back to you.
DeleteI think there may have been, but I only have the Topps deluxe reissue edition boxed set, which contained three series.

DeleteFive sets of fronts / six sets of backs!?
Love 'em all!
Ach, now that you've seen 'em all, you don't need me to post them on my blog, JP.
ReplyDeleteWhat, and just settle for inferior picture quality?
DeleteNo, I come here for the BEST quality pix!
You old flatterer you, JP. (But you're not wrong.)
ReplyDeleteI know, and I also know I've asked you this before, but if we wait for the book to happen, it may never transpire, so, any more thoughts on a TV21 back page gallery? You know I'd love it!!
DeleteThe only bubble gum cards I collected were the Planet Of The Apes ones from early 1975. There were 50 in the entire set and I managed to get all of them - they all featured scenes from the TV show and were very popular in my school, we all seemed to be collecting and swapping them. Have you got them, Kid or if not do you know the cards I mean ?
ReplyDeleteNot much point, JP. Both you and I have the Marvel Special with all 104 episodes.

No, don't have them, CJ, never even knew about them at the time. They might not have been sold in Scotland as the TV show wasn't broadcast here in the '70s.
I never saw any cards from the 1975 Planet of the Apes TV series. I did have a few from the first POTA movie, sometime around 1968 or so.
ReplyDeleteBesides the painted Batman cards, there was also a series with photos from the TV show. Adam West as Bruce Wayne, West and Burt Ward as Batman & Robin, Burgess Meredith as the Penguin, and so on. They must have come out at about the same time as the painted ones.
If they were by Topps, I wonder if they weren't reissued in 1989 with the painted series because perhaps they'd have had to pay to use the images of Adam West and Burt Ward?
ReplyDeleteI just did a search for those POTA cards and apparently there were 66 not 50 as I thought but otherwise they were as I remembered them - isn't the internet great for instant nostalgia. And the POTA cards were from Topps like the Batman cards.
ReplyDeleteThe internet IS great for instant nostalgia, CJ - as is THIS blog ('though not in the case of POTA cards obviously).
