PART TWO OF 'NEW' SUPERMAN COVER GALLERY...

Images copyright DC COMICS

Why keep you in suspense?  Here are the next six covers in our 'new' SUPERMAN series, first published back in 1987.  The cover below was based on FANTASTIC FOUR #249, also by JOHN BYRNE, and I think he's used the design again since, as I'm sure I've got a comic by him lying around somewhere with the same cover layout.  Any memories associated with these six issues?  Then share them with the rest of us, frantic ones.

  1. That no. 12, it's a bit girly, not sure how I'd feel about picking that up from a spinner rack.

  2. Surely you're in touch with your feminine side, DSE? Besides, it's a Superman comic, and Supes is a macho man. Having said that, it was put aside in my standing order at FP, so I didn't actually get it from a spinner-rack.

  3. Uh yeah, you what I call someone with a feminine side? GAY and I've got my suspicions about Superman too, whereas The Batman, the guy who has a live in teen male companion, is not the least bit woofy and a true man's hero.

  4. I must have read over 90% of the comics you have shown here under "Adventures of Superman" and "Superman" threads, I didnt realise I had read so many of these at the time, but then again they were all excellent reads. I think by contract that in the last 5 years I have only picked up about 5 Superman titles (2 of these, the Neal Adams new Superman title in the last 2 months) says it all really I just cant get into the character now at all (I have read a few others in those packs of 5 comics for £1 but that doesn't count) I had great hopes for the John Romita (Jnr) run.

  5. Och, you're not fooling anyone, DSE, we all know you're a screaming big wooftah, who's into flower-pressing and making dolls' dresses. Go on, admit it. (Or maybe that's Walter the Softie I'm thinking about. I know it's one of you.) And of course Batman's not gay - but the guy he was kissing last night is.)

I picked up the first issue or so of the New 52 Superman, browsed through it, didn't like it, never read it, cancelled my order for it. Got the first three issues of Neal Adams' Coming of the Supermen, but his art is a bit rough in places and the storytelling seems a little disjointed. I'll get the next three, but I think it'll be back issues from the '70s from now on, McS.

  6. Know what I mean about the art on the new 52 Superman? It's so anonymous I can't even remember who did it.
