BONUS - DOUBLE DOUBLE COMICS INTERLUDE...

Images copyright DC COMICS

Whilst I try and find the time for scanning the splash pages inside my few remaining DOUBLE DOUBLE COMICS, here are the covers of some I don't have - yet.  I wonder if the same contents sometimes appeared under different covers?  Anyone know?  Spill the beans in the comments section, comics lovers!

  1. Thanks for posting these. I've got vague memories of them from the sixties, but would have avoided them preferring the 'real' thing. I spend a lot of time surfing and looking at cover scans, but have never seen these before, so you really are documenting a missing piece of UK/US comic history.
    Thanks again,
    Jim

  2. Swan, Swan, Swan, Swan, Moldoff? Adams, Swan. There's that gray area where Dick Sprang and Moldoff both did Batman and sometimes it was Jerry Robinson. Robinson liked the abstract covers and giant props. It's quite a guessing game if you don't already know who drew it.

  3. Glad you enjoyed seeing them again, LJ - makes doing the blog worthwhile.

    ******

It looks like Moldoff to me, Phil, but as you say, it can be a guessing game sometimes.

  4. Any brave souls want to translate 1/9 into decimal? 1 Shilling is 1/20 of a £ or 5p. 9 old pence is 9/12 of a shilling of 9/12 of 5 P or 3.75 p for a total of 8.75 p. Not possible in decimal. So we round up to 9 p.

  5. I'm quite prepared to take your word for it, Phil. Maths was never my strong point.

  6. I only ever saw ( and bought ) the one double double Comic - it had Batman being punched through a window on the cover. One of the comics inside was the debut of the Scarecrow, which I already had! I can't remember the other 3 Comics.

      That's the one I had.
No, the Scarecrow didn't really grab me either!

    2. You couldn't beat the big 4 for Batman's villains. You know who they are!

  8. When you compare the art in that Scarecrow ish to just about any Marvel comic of the same time, it's rather basic. Iron Man also fought a villain called the Scarecrow, but I can't be bothered checking which one came first.

As for Batman villains, I suppose you mean the Joker, Catwoman, the Riddler and the Penguin. To be honest, I never thought much of the Penguin. Perhaps you were thinking of Two-Face 'though?

  9. Some people say it's a nasty habit I've got.

  10. I know I'm in a minority of one here, but my favourte era of Batman Comics was the early 60's, pre-TV - all that sci-fi & alien stuff! Great for young kids! And the 80 page giants -WOW!!

  11. I was never a great fan of these strips to be honest. Wrong direction for Batman.

  12. Double Double Adventure Comics 3 with the Adams cover definitely had different contents. I've read three of them!

The first -my original, circa 70/71- featured Adventure 365: Escape of the Fatal 5 ( intro Shadow Lass); Aquaman 38 vs. the Liquidator; WF 175 Batman/Superman Revenge Squads by Adams; Wonder Woman vs. Paula Von Gunther. Possibly also Giganta the Gorilla Girl from WW 163, 1966.

Subsequent ebay copies have different stories, sometimes of the same characters i.e. LSH vs the Chemoids; Aquaman 39 and in one, IIRC, a Romita/Spider-Man/Brainwasher story. So, hunting down "my original" has been fruitless.

  13. Probably best to acquire the individual issues you remember, Dougie, then at least you'll have the DDAC cover and the contents. Or risk buying a few more copies of that particular ish.
